A whole lotta bots these days.

aaradorn

The forums are plagued with bot's, every time you guys ban one another one makes an account, isn't there a way to stop them? They are incredibly annoying.

I suggest a 2 step authentication when making an account combined with an e-mail verification before you can post anything and a question form when you login for the first time after creating an account aka: What Computer brand starts with a D and ends with ELL, and of course the famous I am not a bot authentication.

The bots we see are nothing compared to the ones that get blocked before even showing up.

God bless the mods and admins.

Prior to registration, there is a captcha, email verification, and the details are checked against a database of known slammers from other sites. Of the accounts that get past that, >80% of the spam posts are detected as spam, and blocked, before they are made public. What you see is the tip of the iceberg.

When you do see spam posts, please do report it as bot spam - with enough reports it will get removed automatically (subject to safeguards), and the automated filters can then be improved to hopefully catch those posts in future.

True.

What I have encountered are users that post in very broken English as well as poor grammar and bizarre topics like the user whose Dad wouldn't let him build a better Gaming PC when the issue was his slow internet connection.

I think the "Advertising (except bot spam) or referral links" option is for people who advertise their personal stuff or amazon links that give them some kickback, for example. So only humans.

While "Bot spam" is specific to bots.

Only big botspam I've seen was the multiple korean accounts posting random clips of news articles in Korean.

Brands I wholeheartedly reccomend (though do have flawed products): Apple, Razer, Corsair, Asus, Gigabyte, bequiet!, Noctua, Fractal, GSkill (RAM only)

Wall Of Fame (Informative people/People I like): @Glenwing @DrMacintosh @Schnoz @TempestCatto @LogicalDrm @Dan Castellaneta

I've encountered a lot over the years and it use to be a huge problem before the filter.  Like every night there would be about 5-10 posts in broken English mixed with Arabic about fridge warranties or psychics.   The last ones were from some Egyptian and Euro bots about embalming fluid for human corpses.  Oh and some were about infomercial grade health bs.

I've seen one selling penis enlargement pills

I moderate a couple telegram groups, and even human detection methods aren't perfect

Companies that spam stuff actually pay people to sit through captcha, and once they get blocked in some way, they'll just find another way, like changing an IP or email provider.
