boiled water ok?

so i live in the boonies and to get distilled water would be a trip and a half lol, So would boiling water be ok? im mixing it with mayhems XT-1 nuke uv green so it will have all the biocides and junk in there.

Boiled water still has the contaminants in it.  Unless you're boiling it and then capturing the steam in a sterile container.  Which is then distilled water.

 

So you can use it if you have to, but note while the particles may be inert now, they are still in the system and can accumulate and cause issues.

Boiling water actually leaves the mineral laden water in your pot. You want to distill it like this. ^

You'll probably be okay, but honestly, it's just another unnecessary risk when you're building a water-cooling setup. I'd recommend buying some distilled water, just so you're sure.

Honestly, half-assing a custom loop just isn't smart.  Either order a proper cooler or drive to town and get proper distilled water.

 

Being in the boonies isn't an excuse for not doing this right.

I wouldn't recommend using this kinda water. It's very much time consuming and if you are concerned about the cost and time, doing it yourself will cost everything more AND have a huge risk. I don't know about your place but where I live, I buy distilled water for my inverter battery which literally costs just around a dollar or two for 5 liters.

Boiling can lower carbonate hardness, but it doesn't remove other stuff in the water.

 

Rain is nature's distilled water. Actually pretty pure... if not for airborne contaminants that can be collected on the way. For water cooling perspective, non-soluble dust would be the biggest concern. I don't know of a way around that. It can be very fine stuff picked up by the wind so I'm not sure it is easy to mechanically filter.

 

If you can't find distilled water (also try car part places), also see if you can get de-ionised water.

any form of soluble contaminants like NOX, so2, so3 and many others will dissolve into the water vapour before it falls, along with most likely smoke particulates from nearby vehicles / factories.

ok so i just ordered some mayhems pure or whatever its called supposed to be good so we shall see,and i can mix it with there dyes so thats a plus i wanted green so i can still have that anyways thanks for all the info!! glad i didnt do the boiled thing.

i see your point however i know its easy for people to take for granted the simple luxury of being able to drive or even walk to the store when needed,i am disabled and even if the store was 5 miles away i couldnt get there anyways,i cant drive and def cant walk,sure i have an elec. chair but its battery might get me half way lol

i already ordered some mayhems pure....and i live on a disability check which means im pretty poor and to upgrade anything cpu related takes me months of saving,i didnt want to spend money i could be using on food or something,but point taken and i ordered some so..theres that

Custom loops and CPU cooling having nothing at all in common with cars!!!

 

No tubes/piping.

 

No radiators.

 

No fans.

 

No temperature sensors.

 

NOTHING!!!

 

 

Edit:  You all keep me inching closer and closer to doing a custom loop someday

ok i think i will throw some pics up but im waiting on another thermaltake pacific res/pump combo to come so i can finish it up,right now its a mess of octopus wires lol just making sure eveything works as it should then when i get the final piece ill hide the wires plumb the second loop and upload some pics! ill have to change my avatar pic also cuz its in a dif case,its all going in a custom painted tower 900....
