Is a rtx 2070 worth it with a i5 8400

should i go for a 2070 when i have a i5 8400 or should i just get a 2060. A 2070 is an extra $250 over a 2060

The 2060 is overall better value. Still, there are new AMD graphics cards coming in about a month to compete with Nvidia so waiting for those night be good. 

 

What's your performance target?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

 

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

 

How many watts do I need? ATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explained, group reg is bad

im currently playing on 1080p 60fps but i want to upgrade eventually to 1440p

My friend runs a RTX2060 with an i7 9700k @5.2GHz and it is a good combo.

With your CPU expecially I'd go for the 2060.

RTX 2060 is only 10% slower but like so much cheaper.

 

If you OC the RTX 2060 you get stock 2070 performance, meaning then you have to OC the 2070 to keep any gap.

Agree 100% with @fasauceome, a moderately overclocked 2060 matches a 2070 in performance, and is $150 cheaper. 

I'd wait for AMD's new Navi GPUs since they're meant to be competitively priced at around 2070 performance so you could end up paying less for a 2070 level card.

2060 can do 1440p 60fps pretty great, or 1080p 144Hz if you go that route. But waiting for competition should force 2060 prices down, or reveal a very affordable competitor.

Wait for the new AMD range to drop, and then look at prices.

You'll either be able to afford a 2070 more comfortably....or get a 2060 for less than they are currently, and put the money saved into a beefier cpu? :)
