Upgrade now or wait for Ryzen 3000?

Hello everyone, I just got some money for my graduation and I want to upgrade my system. I'm currently running a 6700k, 16GB ram, GTX 1080. I do 90% gaming and 10% "office" workload. I don't edit videos or anything like that. I do play Triple A titles on a 144Hz 1440p monitor. So I'm just trying to get what's the best bang for my money right now or if I should wait for Ryzen 3000, I'm not sure when those are coming out. Thank you all for your comments.

The 6700k is still a very good chip. For 1440p 144, a much better investment would be a better GPU like a 2080 or 2080 Ti.

Wait. With the system you got there, it shouldn't be hard to wait a bit to see how Zen2 will be like as your current system is still good. You'll have better options after Zen2, even if you don't like it, you'll likely pay a reduced price for Intel after Zen2. So its a win-win situation and all you have to do is wait

And when is Zen 2 supposed to be released?

Could be as soon an Computex at the end of the month, but I'm not holding my breath quite yet. Some people are saying 3rd gen Ryzen at Computex and Navi at E3, but that seems really agressive of a schedule to me.

Either way, I would definitely expect it to actually be in stock and available, which is what's important anyway, before Black Friday, to get it kicked off proper with some sales volume.

When there was competition, they did that.

We didn't have that in the last ~10 years or so...

If it's Intel I was looking at the 9700k. And I was waiting for Ryzen 3000, but looks like it'll be a while.

Ride out until when? Like I said, I want to set up a NAS/Emby server, so I rather buy something new for my main and use the old for the server, instead of buying cheap for the server and then having to buy something new for my main anyways.

Computex is what the 27th of this month. I’d at least wait til then, see what the specs look like on ryzen and the pricing. Let reviewers put up numbers for it and go from there, absolutely no need to rush into this when we have no clue how good or bad these new cpus will be compared to the 2000 series.

Im still using a ryzen 7 1800x @4ghz, I’d like to see what the new ryzen brings to the table. If it’s worth it I’ll upgrade and sell my 1800x and b350 tomahawk for cheap. If not I’ll use what I got til something worth while comes out

Something just came up so I might not upgrade at all. I'm thinking I'll just get a Ryzen 5 2600 for the server and keep my 6700k on my main.
