BOINC Pentathlon 2019

Go to solution Solved by jakkuh_t,

Seems like the easiest way for most people to help out is in the Marathon.

This involves downloading BOINC, selecting the "World Community Grid" project, and then selecting the sub-project "OpenZIKA".

1. Download + Install BOINC (https://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php

2. Open BOINC and click "Add Project"

3. Select the "World Community Grid" project, and then click on their website url. (https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/discover.action)

4. On their Website, click "Join Now" at the top left or right depending. Enter your information and Register.

5. Once presented with the Sub project selection, choose "OpenZIKA" and click next. It will download a program, but you don't need it.

6. Go back to the BOINC app and click "Next >". Login with the World Community Grid account that you just signed up for.

Your BOINC app will now benchmark your system, and then start running.

BUT, you still need to set your team to the LTT forum one.

7. Navigate to the team selection page, and login if you aren't already (https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/team/viewMyTeam.do)

8. Type in "LinusTechTips" in the "Contains:" field.

9. Click on the "LinusTechTips_Team" result that shows up. Once the page loads click "Join Team".

You will now be BOINCing for the LTT team :D

This is the easiest way to help out the cause, but there are more beneficial / advanced ways to do so if you're interested. Refer to the OP for more information.

@Windows7ge

What's your's looking like, my pending tasks are now thundering through. Another 1000 just got done since I last posted, just before.

Edit:

Also good thing I just wrote a project switching script ?

I feel like something's broken on my end here I have the entirety of 2 validated, 58 are pending (but I bunkered more than that so...), and 379 are in progress but none of my systems are currently running LHC tasks...

Manually update the project maybe? They won't update if it's suspended even if the tasks are complete. Also at this point I would either only run LHC ATLAS with vbox or jump on to WCG as we need to keep that feed too.

I still have my 1900X doing WCG.

The 1950X is doing NFS atm.  Once that is done, it will go full bore back to WCG.

What I did was release the jobs when the event started, waited for all of them to upload, then removed LHC from my list of projects.

Even if that somehow screwed me 58 got though safely but still only 2 have validated after this many hours. That's stupid. Better off doing the VM tasks at least they validate very soon after the jobs are done (from what I observed in the past)

I've got my rigs back on Marathon. I'll hold the fort here. Guess what I had bunkered was for next to nothing.

It took ~12 hours before 8836 of mine got validated, still got another 8135 pending. It's a bloody joke this would have been used for sprint, marathon fine but sprint.....

I seen some of the folks over on OCN complain a tad about LHC being picked.

And, as someone that runs LHC off and on through the years, I'm like.....wtf, why the hell pick that one!?

LHC server seems to be throwing a wobbly. I'm moving back to WCG for now, and will aim to remember to switch to NFS later.

NFS might be out of work. I have all projects selected, and on attempting to get work I'm receiving none. Keeping WCG as backup project as LHC winds down, will let it sort itself out.

We're getting crushed in LHC anyway, thinking abandon ship on that one lol.

What I've done is changed my LHC project settings to ATLAS only and will run that only on my 2 windows server concurrent with NFS/WCG. Seems pretty clear to me the teams getting consistent and decent hourly credits in WCG are not doing sixtrack.

Even if we don't get better than 11th at least it's -6 compared to last year and we should get a little personalized congrats message. That's pretty cool.

Roughly 2/3 of my LHC work is validated now. Having some difficulty getting NFS work though. One system grabbed some no problem. Ok, I'll turn on another one now it is getting cooler, and I'm not getting sent work on that. More WCG then.

Also got careless last night, put one system onto numberfields instead of NFS, they're next to each other. Wasn't that one of last year's projects?
