Anybody know why companies use the zodiac and constellations for naming?

Ah, and the Strix is a Greek mythical bird, almost forgot.

 

So yeah, ancient Greek/Roman theme from Asus for their mainline graphics cards.

Example.

 

ASUS ARES = Aries.

ASUS MARS = Mars ^ ruler of Aries... all linked.

 

Perhaps that is merely ASUS but it gives insight into what these people see in their minds.

According to some history a little off topic but not far off since it goes with high intelligence. Einstein and many top level minds were involved in such theory and used it.

If you think it is about your future that is incorrect but many can use it to predict events in a way that can have a better larger image view, not an accurate one until said event happens though.

 

Another one is AMD's naming scheme for many products whilst not being directly zodiac related, more so just space related seems to have a link also.

Nobody else saw this far into it? No? just me? ok i will sip my coffee.

Mars and Ares are the gods of war in Roman and Greek mythology. I don't think it has to do anything with zodiac stuff.

Same thing with Republic of Gamers, it's a Roman theme, sort of.

Indeed as Mars and Aries are in the zodiac.

 

I know some astrology, not a preacher though.

because they are running out of ideas to make themselves stand out? Just look at how many stuff there are with the word "gaming" in it.

I wouldn't say running out, the use of the Roman and Greek names is pretty old. Mars was back when they did a custom dual GTX 480 (I think) at least so that's a few years.

these mythological names represent archetypal structures within our psychology and even if you dont understand the significance of these systems your brain does

so they attain a gravity normal names wouldn't have because of the affect on your unconscious

Although they might get away with calling it the "Giant Enemy Crab."

 

Edit: That said, there may be some merit to using a zodiac naming convention:

- Virgo could be the entrance model for the inexperienced gamer

- Leo could be the highest-end "king" level performance tier

- Taurus could be the fastest (and let's give it a red front plate for good measure)

- Libra could be the most balanced price-to-performance ratio model

 

The possibilities are sadly finite, whereas mythology has a far greater pool to draw from.

I'm willing to bet some guy in marketing just likes the way they sound.

 

kind of how Nvidia was using kyrptonian names from DC for their old mobile CPUs. (Jor-El, Kal-El, etc.)

 

I'd start calling my stuff after old rock/metal bands.
