Good, the bad, the ugly.  Being offered one at a very good price. 

 

The downside I see is the TDP.  Any upside?

Corsair HX850 so power will be fine

 

$130 to my door.  I don't think its worth passing up...but will I eat the cost in electric in 1 year (that Im "saving" up front lol)

I am pairing it to the FX 8350 system...so yes..copious amounts of heat...building a loop for it right now with the 2 GPUs in it lol so will change my plans and will need a new GPU block...but oh well!

 

Dispersing this with 2x240mm and 1x120mm radiator in the loop, dual pumps...going to Frankenstein my FX rig for funzies lol

i do have to say fx is going to greatly decrease the performance of a card even an older one like the fury

Cant be any worse than the performance I am having now, my issues are 100% GPU bound in the games I play and in triple A titles my CPU is starting to show its age but the goal is to OC to 5.0 GHZ (can get 4.7 but don't like the temps) and eek it out longer....while learning how to do my first custom loop.

ah... i see you're building a new space heater... what about a 9900k? that will keep you much warmer

Adding to the space heater Anthem and Ring of Elysium and a few of the games Im playing right now are just destroying my dual GPU setup.  Ring of Elysium utilizes both cards insanely well and I cant keep 60fps.  Bouncing around 45-60. 

 

My CPU honestly folks...isn't bound yet.  Once it gets bound than the mobo, cpu, ram will be replaced

well fx 8350 is essentially a 2600k these days. not great, but its ok. 

 

from a guy with a R9 Nano. it works nice.

idk. 2 Opteron 6178 12 cores would be a nice pickup wouldnt it?  they are only like 20$ a piece or something. 1,8$ per core aint half bad

I am actually looking at the specs to do this right.  Copper block for this is like $3.  Mounting it however is the issue I am running into atm (the block) - I don't mind using Zip Ties...and the name of this whole thing Im doing (have most of it in transit will do a build log in about 60-90 days due to china shipments) is Code Name Frankenstein...but Id like for it to look decent as well.  Kinda of. 

 

I just hit purchase on that card, should have it Friday or early next week so my loop just changed and two blocks just got freed up LOL (potentially...both have customizable hole patterns for mounting) so at least 1 is freed up!

ever heard of silicon? that and some wood to lock it into place. use thermal paste to conduct instead of pads to increase conductivity and mounting possibility. 

 

hopefully the mobo doesnt have overcurrent protections

I have two options tbh, put the Fury in my Ryzen rig (as it runs a 2k Acer 144hz monitor off a R7 260x currently which in AAA games she has to run at 1920 x 1080 to keep 60 fps) and continue with the 2012 Frankenstein as it is, or add the Fury to my rig and put that crossfire setup in the Ryzen...

 

My wife may see the GPU and say - that's going in my rig - when it arrives BWUAHAHAHAHAHA.  Im kind of at this point in the project that a lot of its ordered (pumps, res, 2x240mm 1x120mm rad, fittings, GPU blocks, CPU block is in hand) however nothing has to be set in stone (got a steal on the GPU blocks @ 15 each so it wouldn't be a total loss)

Naw its meant for OCing that gen of chip ASUS M5A99FX PRO r2.0

 

Actually that's great suggestion on mounting.  Code Name Frankenstein should have some wood keeping it together.

try getting some green paint. the sort that gets drawn into the wood. i think its called oil stain. that or any colour you want. think you get 1L boxes for use inside.

Especially given the major upgrade I would be giving either of my PCs in my sig lol (not sure where I will home it yet....tbh likely my Ryzen pc my wife games on...pretty shinies keep her goin lol)...now my HTPC can receive a 2gb card and play GTA5 @1080p instead of 720 due to VRAM limitation lol.

 

EDIT - I typed would...will...went ahead and bought it, money has exchanged banks now waiting on the tracking.  Also my first used GPU purchase.  This will be interesting (for me - will do a write up on it as the only reason Ive stayed away from used market was....well..the risk lol)
