Trying to get a graphics card for extremely cheap; what's a good value?

patcat127

I'm trying to adapt my old PC into a box for wake-on-lan, minecraft server hosting, etc and I don't need very much GPU power for it. Problem is, the chip is an AMD FX-6200, which doesn't have any form of integrated graphics. I need a graphics card powerful enough for running ubuntu, with an HDMI output if possible, as cheap as possible. Preferably new because I might not be buying this immediately and want to ensure its still available when I do, but if you have a used link, let me know as well. Preferably amazon links/free shipping but i'll take what I can get.

Grab a 1060 3GB unless you play with ultra settings at higher resolution then you need 1060 6GB for like 200ish or buy from ebay for like 150 to 200 bucks to the door.

Check local classifieds or maybe ask a local computer shop if they have an extra GT 710 or something laying around and don't need that you'll buy off them

Used RX 570.

The 560 and 550 might cost less, but they're much worse.

Ryzen 7 3700X / 16GB RAM / Optane SSD / GTX 1650 / Solus Linux

Ultra settings Ubuntu? The 1060 is way too powerful for the stated use case.

Basic HDMI out? GT 710. Need some form of graphics compute for light gaming application? GTX 750 ti. Although if you're hosting the server on one PC and playing on another, you hardly need any GPU at all.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

simply put

the cheapest GT(X) 700 series Nvidia Card or hd 7800 series AMD card  (or later on both) you can find on the used market.

that is essentially what you are looking for.

If you don't mind power usage go for an r9 290/390(x). Great value and 1060 performance. You could also go for a 900 series card. 700 would work, but drivers aren't great. In that generation amd is better

Did no one read op? He would be fine with onboard graphics and is only looking for equivalent performance. It is a Minecraft server for christsake. Why is everyone recommending 1060 level performance when he clearly wants weak and cheap?

cheapest one you can find on this list:

https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/141700/en-us

dont look at GTX cards, theyre more powerful/expensive than you need.

anything NVS, GT will do you.

the reason i say that is that those are the current supported cards on nvidia's official drivers. so youll have less hassle with compatability. you can also do the same for an AMD card, but i cant find the motivation to do the googling for you.
