Corsair now sell 'Fake Ram' to fill your RGB needs

Corsair is now selling faux ram modules with programmable RGB's to fill any previously unfilled dimm slots on your motherboard.  It's $40 for a set of two modules.

RGB is silly, but people love it.  We pay a lot more for a little more performance, if they want more lights, then more power to them I guess.

I have plenty of components with RGB capabilities, but I literally disable all of the lights on my pc. Last thing I want when on my pc is it to be bright as hell when I am trying to game or browse or whatever. Sure if I want to show it off I can  turn them off, but I don't go out of my way for RGB just everyone is tossing it on crap these days.

 

I mean how often do you show off your home pc? I have friends come over and the like, but hell I rather be like hey try this game out with my VR headset. Then LOL as they experience one of those oh crap moments that only VR can bring.

I really don't understand why people think RGB is stupid. So in some cases, let's say you have a low-powered cheap PC and double your budget by trying to make it "look fast". Sure, totally dumb. I think the car equivalent is a "ricer"?

 

But if you spent a lot of money on a powerful PC and want it to look as cool as it performs, what's the problem?

I don't build PCs to show off to others, even though I do sometimes.

 

I build PCs so I can oggle at it when I want to.

I do not think RGB looks cool in the majority of builds I have seen.  Even you qualify your dislike of it.  I just have a much larger parameter set for dislike.

Seems like a novel enough way to add some finishing touches to a kit without filling every single RAM-slot with actual RAM. Not my thing, but I can certainly see the appeal for someone who is into the whole RGB-thing.

$40 does seem about twice as much as I think something like these are worth, to be quite frank. I'm sure these will sell pretty well even at $40, but for what they really are, ie. some RGB-leds, an I2C-controller, some plastic and a barebones PCB, it's just a tad bit much.
