RTX 2080Ti with Kraken G12, low performance.

saeedsaf

Hi there,

I just mounted a G12 coupled with a Kraken X62 on my Gigabyte Aorus RTX 2080Ti Xtreme and it's driving me crazy, temps reach a max of 55 degrees under heavy usage, and clock speed hit 1900 MHz. However, my card's performance has taken a heavy hit, my FPS in BFV has dropped from 120 to a mere 70. Multiple other games have suffered too, and I can't really figure out what's causing this.

I would appreciate if you could help me here.

Regards,

Saeed

A picture of your kraken setup would be helpful.  I'm wondering if you're not cooling the VRM/RAM properly.

Do you have ray tracing on? That could give you a performance hit near 50% and that recently got enabled, it was not there at launch. If ray tracing is on turn it off and check your fps.

it's off, Forza Horizon 4 has taken a good hit too, FPS dropped from 90 to 55 in some cases :/

Forza Horizon 4 runs better on my system than your system.... Is the CPU bottlenecking? I have no idea.

I have a Gtx 1080 AMP! with a ryzen 5 1600. It runs at 100 max settings

Or it could be that your PSU is simply not enough

I used to get around 90 FPS with the stock cooler, my resolution is 3440X1440P

Pictures. You need heat spreader/heatinks on the vrms and RAM.

I noticed that my Voltage was limited at 0.9, and that the TDP is maxing at 75%.

Could that be related to vrms?

you are probably overheating the VRM and the memory chips on the card...which are already an issue even with the full cover cooler...i think you will kill the card.

He said that you need heatsinks or heat spreaders on the VRMS and GDDR6 VRAM. I'm not sure if you skimmed over what he said before you posted again, but pictures would be nic---No, we need pictures to help you, please!

Sounds like VRMs are overheating.

The stock cooler is designed to cool the VRM, VRAM (Memory chips) and other critical parts of the PCB.

Now that you've taken that off, your GPU die/core is running cooler with the AIO, but you got nothing on the VRMs and the GDDR6 VRAM ICs for cooling.

You have no cooling on both vrm and vram. You are cooking them real good.

Yep, the VRAM modules as well as the VRM aren't even cooled, little wonder the GPU is throttling......like a mad mutha.  OP, you do know these need to be cooled as well, right?

the G12 has a fan on the right side, but the VRAM around the GPU isnt getting any cooling, so it's probably that. Any suggestions on how to cool it? Heatsinks and Spreaders?

Also, would it be possible that the GPU bios is throttling it down because it's not detecting the fans?

Never heard of a graphics card throttling because no fan was plugged in. The best way to watercool is getting a proper full cover block for it. With a setup like yours you could put some little heatsinks on the vram etc. but that doesn't really do much.

Yes they do, otherwise just keep the stock cooler on, the g12 will eventually kill the card because it only cools the gpu.
