That isn't a very smart plan. Pick something that interests you and has good job opportunities.

I think you need to be at least halfway interested in order to be really good at what you are doing. That should be your goal because everything else will come automatically.

All you have to do to join the crew is curbstomp austin evans or something.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

They have several video editors and camera operators.
I think something like Cinematography would be something related. iirc, Austin Evans' camera operator has a degree in something along those lines. The company put out hiring videos several times. They needed writers a few times but I think that comes down to portfolio & passion. Most people are supposedly Engineering drop outs.
If you want to join Float-plane with Luke, you need some kind of programming like Software Engineering or Computer Science. Otherwise Business might be available. I think Edzel is the business guy & his job is to tell everyone to work.
Search for the 6 million subscriber special livestream where Linus shows off most employees in the building. Then search the job videos. He had 2~ videos saying "We're hiring!"

If you mean Linus, he doesn't have a degree and I don't think any of his employees are engineers.

Could be, I don't know much about the more recent arrivals - still, most of them aren't

I did 6/8 terms in Mechanical Engineering and 4 engineering work placements.  I think it was a combo of that experience and not being a total garbage writer although I think being in the right place at the right time helped a lot too.

I do remember 2 positions being up on one of LTT's videos, do not recall which one though. I think it was camera/lighting related. An engineering degree wouldn't help with that. Just passion for cameras and lighting, I suppose.

So how did a Mechanical Engineer actually end up at a media company? Was Linus looking for (Mechanical) Engineers?

Have you also studied something related to content creation or media in general, before/after your Engineering studies?

Most college grads find work that have nothing to do with what they learned. It is not uncommon to see history majors work jobs like writers, tech specialist, managers ect.

Most degrees are like that except the highly technical ones like nursing and medical schools. Don't see how you can get any jobs with these except doctors and nurses.

About 2 years in I figured out that making educational videos seemed like something I'd enjoy doing.  This path probably wouldn't work to get into LMG again though since we look for a large diversity in talent when hiring.

Yes but those degrees are useless and not worth the money. There are many bullshit degrees out there.

People with useful degrees will work in their field.

But I thought a degree in YouTube is what made Linus into a YouTube superstar o.O

I can't blame you... it indeed seems something very gratifying. So you spontaneously applied for a job at LMG? Or was Linus actively looking for people?

I was simply only interrested as to why a Mechanical Engineer ended up at a media company. I don't have any plans to apply at LMG ;)

I enjoy watching the videos... not making them... too much work :D

Be of legal working age

Be a Canadian resident

Apply for a job when it comes up provided you meet the requirements.

current jobs listed here

http://www.linusmediagroup.com/jobs/

they don't just hire for the sake of hiring. They are a business and only hire when required. they also look for people with experience. Just being a fan is not sufficient to ask for a job.
