But then again, it doesn't matter either way. You are moderator, and this is mining section which you should encourage people to have discussion in first place, not the other way around.

 

 

Show me one PC Enthusiast that is happy paying 2x+ MSRP for a GPU when they want to upgrade or build a new PC and that's when they're even able to find one in stock somewhere.

Also being a moderator doesn't mean that any opinion he has is moot. Having an opinion on a particular topic and expressing it doesn't have any sort of conflict with his moderator status. The only time that would be a problem is if he was locking threads because he doesn't want mining to start back up. That would be, you know, actually stifling discussion. It's not like when you become a mod you instantly have to jerk everyone off in a particular subforum to "foster discussion".

All I read is bunch of excuses with no solution.

 

So what are you proposing? Closing down this thread? Closing down entire sub-forum? or just out right banning entire mining discussion and live happily ever after?

Honestly I prefer not to get into the "Mining is bad for gamers" argument, but I think you are missing an important point. Cryptomining can actually help gaming, and PC enthusiast. Yes, I know, crazy right? But here is a question I have for you. How many hours a week do you actually benefit form the power of a discreet GPU in you work loads? If you are the average gamer, then 7-18 hours a week, that means that you could get away with integrated graphic or not using the computer for 161-140 hours a week  or 5.8 - 6.7 days a week. Which right now based on the current average for the past 3 months of 0.00005 btc a day on a 1050, is $1.86-2.14  of BTC a week at the current value of ~$6000 a bitcoin, that doesn't sound like much esp. when you pay the US average of power at $0.12 a killowatt or  $1.40-1.61 a week for power, but what if Bitcoin hits $30,000 a BTC like some analysts predict is possible that would be $4-5 a week including power, that means that if you bought a 1050 at MSRP because you were smart and bought it in the Summer, you could earn back enough money to buy a 1060 after the craze and still keep that 1050, that isn't even factoring in the increased profitability that a mining craze brings. Therefore you could "harness thy gigahertz" and let your computer pay for itself, as long as you are willing to invest in new hardware ahead of time.

But what if Bitcoin goes to $0 like most analysts predict is possible? I can play that game too. I know you're trying to be optimistic but it falls on deaf ears in my opinion. Sure I might get a buck a week after subtracting the cost of power but it also means my room is an oven for the whole week. Honestly if I'm going to subject myself to increased room temp and added power usage for a "little" bit of change in return I would rather donate my GHz to Folding@Home or something else that is actually beneficial to science in the long run versus gambling on the "what ifs" of the cryto markets.

Sure it could hit 0 but that is rather unlikely it would take a huge blow to take it down.

This thread morphed into "miners are bad" (2nd post in) not about whether or not Nicehash is the best way to mine. If you're using Nicehash and making "a buck a week" then I stand by my statement, you're doing it wrong. Mining bitcoin at home is, and has been for a long while, a waste of time and money. And again, markets drive prices. If you want another graphics card, the AMD 580s are now back down to almost what I paid for them in Oct/Nov. 2017.

Are you high? Go back and reread the original post in this thread, it's talking about how profitability has gone up when using Nicehash, specifically the Lyra2rev2 algo. I never said anything about Nicehash being better or worse than mining any other way either, that was all stuff you inserted into the conversation with the super vague "you're doing it wrong" bs.

 

Also my comment about "a buck a week" was an exaggeration, using Nicehash I would get around a dollar a day which is still not worth it imo. I know markets drive prices, I'm just tired of the market being hijacked by miners and causing the market to explode for everyone.

HAHAHAHA, like I said earlier, I have some used cards you can buy, slight wear and tear due to mining, small markup, of course, due to mining. They're now broken in for you. Never went above 100 c for more than 72 hours straight, promise. If you want the good stuff I'm on there will be a slightly higher markup. I am sure you understand, supply and demand and all.

Hey guys, long time since my last update! I came to chime in that so far, this upcoming mining season looks like it is going to be a doozy, at least with Bitcoin currently at ~$8,000 and it is on the rise just like last July and I believe a July or two before that, personally I am anticipating that the BTC value will skyrocket to at least $25,000. (Source for chart Coinbase)

Based on what?  The only reason bitcoin reach its all time high is because people with no economics or investor knowledge thought it was easy money without realising that it was a pump and dump.  Lots of those same people got burnt, and now Bitcoin trading is seen for what it is, speculative trading, ie gambling with your own money because bitcoin movement has no economic indicator eg. NonFarm, Company performance etc...

Based on what?  The only reason bitcoin reach its all time high is because people with no economics or investor knowledge thought it was easy money without realising that it was a pump and dump.  Lots of those same people got burnt, and now Bitcoin trading is seen for what it is, speculative trading, ie gambling with your own money because bitcoin movement has no economic indicator eg. NonFarm, Company performance etc...

That's fine.  I just wanted to put the economics behind bitcoin's speculative trading to those who still think it is easy money.

How are you gonna stop it?

 

I personally mine when I'm not using my machine for gaming, which pays for future upgrades.

 

Eventually I imagine all mining will be done on asics, but as it stands very few vendors are even putting purchase limits on GPU as they only care about getting paid.
