Agreed.

IBM systems are probably worth a pretty penny though, IBM hasn't manufactured anything for quite a while.

They were all fabless like AMD, pretty cool stuff actually. Our Acer had a Pentium clone, maybe a Winchip.

Interesting, my old Presario has a slightly better version but in gold (though the 233 also had gold versions too).

I'm still messing around with socket 478 stuff and at this point I'm certain that all my processors are dead. Two new old stock motherboards won't post, and my ECS photon will somewhat post with the 2.8ghz one

it'll hit a bios splash screen but no more

the only known working 478 system I have is a laptop and it's gonna be a nightmare to take that apart for testing

It's also picky with ram, gotta cmos clear a special way to get it to post at all

I've got a Celeron 2.4 Northwood you can have for cost of shipping if you're interested? Hell you can have the whole Dell board it came in!

I have a samsung chromebook 3 and it uses just a copper heatsink lol. I just put 2pc fans on top of it, slanted at a good angle so the air can escape

for any yougins wondering, yes, there were in fact other companies besides AMD and intel that made processors

im also eying an IDT winchip and a RISE mp6

Both of those'd work on my baby AT board. Regardless of BIOS version. Socket 5, 7 and S7 - even laptop variants....it doesn't care as long as its electrically compatible with one of the 3.

huh I was thinking about it for a minute and this thread really only encompasses old computers and computer hardware but there's really not a place for old and retro tech in general like a Sanyo Superbeta or as they called their machine the Betacord or something like that) Model: VCR-4027.

Maybe I'll start a thread like that.

I've posted an iMac G3 here before, original bondi... It's broken right now, not really sure if trying to restore it is worth it. Related to above, restoring that is certainly worth it.

Is this considered retro yet?  ;). It's a giant paperweight from 2012 that still won't run crysis maxed out.  (Probably worth less than my Voodoo 2 SLI setup)

I'm not an expert! In fact I'm usually just 1 google search ahead of you.
