This could still happen.... But it would most probably be a voice channel and no-mic only as I don't want to take away from the forum or the LTT discord.

Sorry for being MIA for the last day or so, ended up having to deal with the doctors... again...

Trying to get everything out of the way before the event so hopefully there won't be any surprise trips to the hospital this year!

A new blog post will be thrown up this week at some point around work and the like, I'm planning to update the public sheet today before I go to work this evening!

I've personally resigned myself to cheaping out on a FE, or at least until gigabyte releases a white edition. I'm just praying I can actually get a chance to buy one

it's more for the fact i don't want to prat about with a proprietary NoVideo cable for power, and the FTW3 shares a PCB with the kingpin card which speaks to me about the build quality of that card standing up well to being made to run at full power for very long time periods and has 3 8-pins - a setup i'm already using on my Lightning Z.

Hence cheaping out 😛 I'd certainly prefer to not get the FE but it is the cheapest

Your passkey still hasn't kicked in yet then if you even requested one. 2070 should be 1M+ IIRC.

CPU won't get you more than 100-200k but it's good to fold with it too as there are some WUs which are only for CPU.

Fastest way to get A LOT of points is to use cloud folding or buy best GPU (soon to be 3080/3090) or now cheap 2080/2080S/2080Ti used.

EDIT: 2070 should get you 1.1 Million PPD on average https://folding.lar.systems/folding_data/gpu_ppd_datasheet?gpu_model=tu106_geforce_rtx_2070_m_6497

Make sure you have a passkey entered in your client https://foldingathome.org/support/faq/points/passkey/  you will not get the full point rewards without it.

When you really wanted to get in on the RTX 3080 launch so you could benchmark it the second they are added to the F@H GPU list...

1303-and-itsgone.jpg

Had it in my cart 2 times as websites crashed and even managed to check out to have it suddenly out of stock as the payment processed.

I love paper launches.

i'm hoping Gigabyte lets me sacrifice trade my 1660s for the opportunity to buy a 3080... because at this point that's probably the only way i'll get one this year

Whatever edge you can get looks like will be needed.

I'm not normally the day one buying type, but watching the Ebay gouge start these cards are not likely to be restocked at MSRP.

While you're talking to them tell them I think this card looks great and the "screen cooling"  pass thru on the back plate is encouraging to eventually stack em for folding  https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N3080GAMING-OC-10GD#kf

I have been folding mainly with RTX2070S and R5 3600. I also have laptop 960M that does less than 100k (not always in use) and an old i5 and Phenom 3-core workstations at work that produce few thousand at best... 😆

RTX2070S clocks are GPU 1995MHz, MEM at 7400MHz...

Assuming you are running a RTX 2070 Super you can expect individual projects work units to range from terrible PPD at 500k to super amazing at 2.3M

The catch is you don't always get a balanced mixed of high and low PPD work units.

So you can have days or weeks were your card produces amazing PPD and others where the PPD is terrible depending on what work units you have randomly picked up to fold.

On average (over a 1000 random work units) you can expect about 1.8M PPD out of a 2070 Super.
