PCWorld Vega FE demo.

Looking at aftermarket 1080Ti's they're range from 1540-1680Mhz for boost clocks.

With anything over that being a manual overclock that's rather hefty.

Ermmm GPU Boost 3.0 exists :P

Yeah, and still Guru3D saw 1080Ti's averaging around 1700Mhz in most games with aftermarket coolers, and had to up power limits, core voltages, and more to get a boost over 1900Mhz.

Also who's the say their Titan Xp was throttling? For all we know the FE throttles on the stock cooler as well. Hence that water cooled one.

We can't draw anything form this expect that in Pro workloads the FE is faster for a similar price stock to stock.

Doesn't mean anything for gaming :P

1900+, yes. 1800-1900 isn't really high for a Titan Xp. BTW, I just fact checked what I said and the reference cooler on the Titan Xp makes it run at 1600-1700MHz, which is VERY low....

When I had my Xp on the reference cooler it would sit between 1750 and 1800 stock. With water it would boost to 2000 without any tweaking.

The Vega card they are testing here is the air cooled version as well though with probably similar thermal performance. Now just imagine the water cooled version with 75W more TDP...

It's going to be interesting.

overclocking potential on vega will be very important to its adoption imo.

my current guess is max oc at around 1750+ -

My guess is that it won't go higher than 1650MHz. AMD cards don't overclock very well

The Tahiti cards clocked really well, as did prior ones. We need to wait and see really.

Either way, I never cared for overclocking GPUs. If I wanted one I'd buy aftermarket. :P

I want it good out of the box.

I think it's less that they don't clock well and more that they clock them closer to their limit out of the box than Nvidia does.

Well great to see these out in the wild now. The RX Vega shipping to AIBP so that's great. Can't wait to see customs.

Ah FFS! That tech bug is scratching, and I'm tempted to pick up a Frontier Edition now just to play around with it.

thats not very true, my rx 480 can get 1450-1500 depending on the game (it crashes if it hits high temps) thats a 15% oc over stock, and they did say they optimized for higher clocks so we will see

You can just spray paint your card blue :D Although the blue on the FE is very nice :P

Your 480 is above average, most 480s can barely hit 1390MHz:

The Blue AMD is using is a very unique pigment though. It gets powercoated on.
So nice.

Looking forward to all the tests, and to see if their reference cooler is actually decent for once. It's been so long.

You understood it wrong.

There's going to be a Radeon RX Vega card that's faster than the Frontier Edition.

Just like there's going to be a Radeon Pro Vega card, and there already is an instinct vega card.

Similar to Radeon RX 580, Instinct MI16, Radeon Pro WX 7100 that uses Polaris 10.

Nice invisible text.

Vega FE is Prosumer

RX Vega is Gaming. RX vega is coing out later, BOTH will use the same CHIP but the RX will be optimized for games the FE is not.

as per the quote he means RX Vega will be better then Vega FE in games. we should expect RX Vega to be miles faster then a RX 580.
