4k netflix streaming from PC

Lays

So I recently got a 7700k partly because I wanted the ability to stream from my PC to my 4k TV, (for some stupid reason, 7th gen CPU's are required for this)

My issue is, I only receive 1080p max from Edge or Netflix APP.

Anyways, I talked to 2 different support reps, one was having me test different HDMI ports when we were disconnected, so I re-connected and started talking to someone else.

I have all the requirements they list on the site:

I'm using Edge, and also tried the official netflix app, I'm plugged into HDMI 2.0 @ 4k 60 hz, and I did indeed check that my TV is HDCP 2.2, so I have that as well.  I just checked for windows updates yesterday and I'm all up to date.  I have a 7th gen core CPU, which is also required, and I also have their required 25 mbps download connection.  ( I actually get 250 mbps)

The last person I talked to at netflix support told me this:

Does anyone know what else I can do?

I use a Shield TV, it does all that shit with far less of a hassle. also what exactly is your issue? is it not ramping up to 4k when playing video or not playing at all, you weren't really clear. Also out of curiosity are you on a z170 or z270 board?

Z170 board, I'm only receiving 1080p stream max. Forgot to mention that in the thread, will add it to OP

I'd really rather not, but I can take one of my 60gb spare SSD's and put an install on that to see if it works I suppose.

Are you saying that you changed your motherboard and CPU without clean installing windows??

just because your computer says you are up to date doesn't mean you have the anniversary update, my computer says I am but i don't have it (I know because I've installed it on other computers and seen the differences), my computer tried to install it but it just rebooted back to the prior state and eventually stopped trying to get it.

I have the anniversary update, I manually installed it a while back.

Oh.

Well I would still do a clean install because then you will be sure if it is or isn't a software issue.

Who has tested and who is it working for? KabyLake just came out like 10 days ago, and it's the only thing that supports it.

got any evidence to back that up? that clean installs has effect on external servers and services? Or are your evidence just purely anecdotal as usual?

But I'm assuming you already are using HDMI from your motherboard and not a GPU, so it should be working.

Clean install is a good way to confirm it is not a problem with the software on your end, since it is a "clean" install.

Almost all issues are caused by windows screwing up.

It's also good practice to do a clean install often to keep a PC running like new.

@Lays I would test removing the GPU (I'm assuming that's what you're outputting from - your GTX 1080), and plug the HDMI cable directly into the motherboard.

I'm betting it's a bug in the Netflix App that isn't detecting your 1080 as being compliant.

Interesting that their requirements do not specify you must use the Kaby iGPU.

This is entirely Netflix's fault for:

1. Not making the requirements clear, and

2. Having buggy shit software that can't detect your GTX 1080 as compliant.
