Mine looks just like 4k on my screen bud.  How are you verifying that it is or isn't?

Ctrl shift alt D

If you do that on edge it'll tell you what resolution it's streaming in.

Apparently you don't read signatures either.  Not gonna bother if I have to use iGPU, I have a 1080 for a reason

But you don't need a 1080 to watch netflix....?

Apparently it does it in the Windows 10 Netflix app as well.

Unfortunately, mine is 1080p, but it's a damn nice 1080p stream.  xD

Go watch an uncompressed Blu-Ray... now that is a good 1080p "stream" :P

Use different monitors/tvs for gaming and watching netflix?

Use a receiver or HDMI switch?

Wasnt the whole point of Netflix that it was going to be an affordable yet convenient way to watch movies and TV shows??? your solution seems like it wouldn't be neither.

Yes, and they never said anything about gaming.

No GPU = cheap.

1080 = expensive.

Look at that, they did go the cheap route, you don't need a 1080 to watch netflix!

Man you're missing the point hard. I hope you're being sarcastic or something...

He has a GTX 1080 to turn his computer into a "kickass Gaming/HTPC". Or do you suggest he should sell his PC and buy an XBOX One S instead? It can game and has 4K Netflix support...

His computer "in theory" meets all the requirements. It's pretty damn shitty that he has to compromise between running the GTX 1080, or watching 4K Netflix.

BUT, the 7th gen Intel CPUs DO have a GPU.... meaning it isnt cheap... because there is a GPU!!!

The point is that if it works when connected to his motherboard but not his 1080, then it is an issue with the GPU support and it will either require a driver/firmware update or a different GPU.

If that is the case, it should say in the requirements if you are required to use iGPU or if you need to wait for GPUs to support it, so the requirements would be incomplete currently.

Yes it is shitty if you have to choose one or the other and it should be available through your GPU.

Unless you are a firmware and driver developer and have access to the nvidia repositories, then you cannot fix this yourself.

Either way, Lays still has to confirm if it works properly through the HDMI output on Z270 motherboards.

No, a 7700k + GPU is more expensive than a 7700k + no GPU.

A 7700k does not have an external GPU, it has an iGPU.

Therefore a 7700k without a dedicated GPU is cheaper than a 7700k with a dedicated GPU.

It doesn't work with Edge either via the iGPU.

It's definitely not a discrete GPU related issue as it won't work with the iGPU via the motherboard either.

I tried iGPU + newest intel drivers and it won't work that way either :'(

  • 4 weeks later...

Doesn't work for me neither. I have the following hardware:

i7-7700

Gigabyte Z170X-UD5 (using DP 1.2 output from Intel video)

LG 27UD68 running at 3840x2160@60Hz

Windows 10 with latest updates, tried Edge and the Netflix app, tops out at 1080p

I'm pretty sure my motherboard doesn't have HDCP 2.2 since the HDMI output is only version 1.4.

You need a motherboard with HDCP 2.2 and only the ones with the MegaChips LSPCon have that. (they use that chip to convert a DP 1.2 output to HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2.

Yep, we need one with LSPcon chips, it's stupid as hell.

There's a reddit thread where someone thinks he got it working by adding a Club3D DisplayPort 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 adapter to the mix. It supports HDCP 2.2, but not sure it would help if the motherboard doesn't have it.

Anyways, it's a huge mess and I don't really want to spend time or money to get this working when I mostly watch Netflix on my 4K Sony Android TV. (the app supports 4K and HDR)

Once again, people getting screwed by DRM! :D
