Source 2: http://www.bbc.com/news/business-37802386

  • Ruling by a London employment tribunal means drivers for Uber will be entitled to holiday pay, rest breaks and the national minimum wage

  • GMB union described the decision as a “monumental victory” for some 40,000 drivers in England and Wales

    • Uber said it would appeal against the ruling, that it had acted unlawfully

  • Ruling accused Uber of “resorting in its documentation to fictions, twisted language and even brand new terminology”

    • Adding: “The notion that Uber in London is a mosaic of 30,000 small businesses linked by a common ‘platform’ is to our mind faintly ridiculous

    • “What is happening at Uber is just the tip of the iceberg. Lots of people are now trapped in insecure jobs, with low pay and no voice at work. We need the government to get tough on sham self-employment

VR Headsets and Herpes

Source 1: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/681181-vr-headsets-and-herpes/ OP: NumLock21

    • Symptoms include: redness, discomfort, blurry vision, and light sensitivity

    • Mild forms clear up within a couple weeks and can be easily mistaken for pink eye

  • It’s “highly unlikely, but not absolutely impossible,” that someone could get ocular herpes through a VR headset, says Todd Margolis, chair of the Washington University School of Medicine’s Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences

  • “The odds would be like the odds of transmitting herpes on toilet seats”

  • General consensus is that VR developers should keep antimicrobial wipes or covers around show booths

Googles AI Created its own form of Encryption

Source 1: https://www.engadget.com/2016/10/28/google-ai-created-its-own-form-of-encryption/

Source 2: https://arxiv.org/abs/1610.06918

  • Researchers from Google Brain deep learning project have already taught AI systems to make works of art

    • Now moving onto something potentially darker: AI-generated, human-independent encryption

    • Googlers martin Abadi and David G. Anderson have allowed three subjects - neural networks named Alice, Bob and Eve - to pass each other notes using an encryption method they created themselves

  • They assigned each AI a task: Alice had to send a secret message that only Bob could read, while Eve would try to figure out how to eavesdrop and decode using cipher key

    • At first, Alice and Bob were bad at hiding their secrets, but over the course of 15,000 attempts Alice worked out her own encryption strategy and Bob simultaneously figured out how to decrypt it

  • Message was only 16 bits long, with each bit being a 1 or a 0

  • Eve was only able to guess half of the bits in the message

    • Means she was basically just flipping a coin or guessing at random

  • Researchers don’t know what kind of encryption method Alice devised, so it won’t be useful in any practical applications

@LinusTech Respectfully, you're completely wrong about Patreon.

  1. I, and possibly others, had no idea Channel Super Fun has a Patreon page because it is never mentioned. Ever.  Start mentioning it and people will support it.
  2. You are overthinking it. A Patreon for all things LMG merely needs one tier.  Jim Sterling does this and people love it!  Try $10,475/month (current when this was written) love just for producing content. No promise of t-shirts or giveaways.
  3. Patreon is an option, not a requirement. People like options.  Give them options.

My PC specifications are in my profile.

The big reason I just simply was not interested in Vessel as a platform was because it was unavailable on Android for a long time, and that was where I watched most of my LMG content at the time. Yes it did get an Android app eventually, but by that time my interested in Vessel was lost.

Wait both Luke and Linus think the Surface Studio is a good product? Any graphic designer would rather use a $50 Wacom tablet and a cheap pc with a decent monitor than trying to drawl with MS paint and a dial that probably won't even work with Adobe, not to mention the screen texture. This thing is a product for uneducated College IT staff members to buy for the students (I assure you that it won't be found within a 100 mile radius of an animation studio where people actually know what they are doing and using). Sure comparing it to the Macbook Pro it's better but it still can't properly do what it's marketed for.

You guys should really look at implementing and deploying a streaming video thing yourselves.  I'm sure there are open source solutions out there and you guys have the infrastructure and a decent number of eye balls.  Keeping it simple at first would give you a decent idea whether to invest into more functionality etc.

Haven't been able to watch CSF in a while.  Too much content.  @LinusTech should consider turning the CSF Patreon into a LMG page that encompasses everything, so every viewer knows it exists.  It's unrealistic to expect every viewer to watch every video on every LMG YouTube channel.  Some viewers might only watch Techquickie or WAN Show for example.  Those viewers would never see the Patreon mention.

I've been watching the Know lately on youtube, they use RoosterTeeth.com which could work as a vessel alternative.  I know it's a separate media group but from what I can tell they're hosting others too.

edit: maybe they aren't hosting beyond their huge group idk..

You know they are scraping the barrel in terms of unnecessary rants about Apple if they are blaming them for not putting non-existent mobile AMD GPUs in their laptops.

It's like when they complained that the 5K iMac didn't have a good enough GPU in it, when it had the R9 M295X. It's not Apple's fault that AMD didn't have anything better in their mobile range.

You have a wrong link, you don't even know how to browse the internet and read pages :))

Surface Studio Link : https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/devices/surface-studio/tech-specs

You can't put "Pro" on a MacBook that doesn't have dedicated graphics card ( i'm reffering to the 13.5 inch screen MacBook Pro take this link cuz' I saw you can't find stuff: http://www.apple.com/macbook-pro/specs/ )

P.S. Funny you got the i5 / 8GB RAM / GTX 965 2GB  but not the display size of Surface Studio
Surface Studio has 28-inch adjustable PixelSense Display, not 13.5 inch screen

The price difference between MacBook Pro and Surface Studio is, mainly, in screen size and choosing nvidia over amd as a graphic card.

They always have a current gen one. The current gen one is the one that is currently being sold. Next gen is the one that isn't out yet.

PS: When did he say it had to be a mobile GPU?
