PSU Tier List [OLD]

Go to solution Solved by Spotty,

This is a legacy list. It is no longer being updated.

The new PSU Tier List can be found here:

Atleast with the case of the Asus 970 Strix incompatibility it was an issue with ripple.

Tier 2

  • Seasonic - S12G, G-series/SSRM, M12II 750W/850W, Focus Plus Gold/Platinum, Focus Gold

Tier 4

  • Seasonic - SS, SSP, S12II/M12II, ECO 430W
6

Why M12II 750W is in Tier 2, and others are in Tier 4?

Btw, my M12II 750W just died yesterday (12V rail dropped down to 10.2 without load) - thankfully the other hardware in my PC are still alive. And you know what... my PSU is just 10-month old (with regular use, no OC, full load is around 400W only). Totally lost my trust in these Seasonic units!

Can someone suggest a better 750W PSU in the same price range? Many thanks.

In the case of Vega, this does seem to be the case, I'm not sure what the issue with the 970 STRIX is tho.

750+w uses a DC-DC platform, 620w and lower uses group regulation.

How did you measure it? DMM? Software?

Why do you need 750w? Either way, just RMA the PSU you have...

I saw it in BIOS, then bring the PSU to the Seasonic distributor where they used a DMM to measure it again - same result. They exchanged another one for me, and with this one while 50% load, the 12V rail dropped to 11.850V. Is a good PSU should not have the 12V rail dropped under 12 while 50% load???

P.S: I need a 750W as I plan to upgrade my PC soon, which suppose to consume roughly 650W+

Because they are two completely different units.

620W and below look like this:

https://ru.gecid.com/power/seasonic_m12ii-520_bronze_evo_edition_ss-520gm2_2015/?s=all

750W is like that:

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story5&reid=356

As you can see the 750W comes with actual protection, while you can't really call that on the lower wattage ones...

so much for the Seasonic quality that some people tend to propagate...

In the end, everyone uses the same components and has the same failures, more or less...

Why 750W??

And the be quiet Straight Power 11 is a good choice.

So you just strongly believe you might need 750W?!

So you're talking about a Threadripper with Two 2080ti or VEGA, right??

Why always asking why about a 750W PSU? Is it some kind of crime for buying it?

And I'm talking about an i7 with SLI 1080Ti, thinking that using a PSU with 25% higher power than real consumption will help to extend its life for a little bit longer - is it a wrong belief?

There are often guys with single GPU systems that think they need a 750W PSU because of a PSU calculator, misinformation from a YouTuber, or a combination of the two.

If you are actually pushing a higher end TR + 2080Ti SLI you could easily hit 1kW 750w is basically minimum for 2050Ti SLI + i7k/r7k

We have no clue what the 2050 series will be like. If it's anything like the past X50 series cards from Nvidia, it will probably be a <75w slot-only powered card as they are so well known for. Also, anything less than the XX60 series cards no longer have official SLI support, IIRC.

Hello guys, just want to ask,

in tier 2 list, there is 'super flower leadex silver'

but i googled em and found that there is no 'super flower leadex silver 550w' and 'super flower leadex silver 650w' anymore.

they replaced it (IDK) with 'silver eco 500w' and 'silver eco 600w'

the link to their product below.

https://www.super-flower.com.tw/product.php?lang=en

so, can someone tell? is there any different? or what

thanks

They are probably different. The Leadex Silver is here.

https://www.super-flower.com.tw/product.php?lang=en&PID=9

They have different wattage models, and the model name ends with MT. The Silver Eco ends with MS. I could find the Leadex Silver on Plug Load Solutions' website, but no mention of the Silver Eco.

https://www.plugloadsolutions.com/80PlusPowerSuppliesDetail.aspx?id=68&type=4

Guessing it's a new model? It's probably not terrible, as it can deliver full power on the 12V rail, it has a semi passive mode, it's rated at 50°C, and they claim it has all the normal protections and the CE certification. Still, as with all PSUs, it's crap until the opposite is proven.

I don#t know, that might be an Asia Pacific only unit that might never come to anywhere else or get reviewed.

So its very hard to rate it as we won#t have any information...

With modern topologys and standard components, you have to want to get it down in efficiency :P

Mistype, I meant 2080Ti, the 2070 does not seem to support SLI so the 2050Ti (if it ever exists)  will not support SLI either.

Hello. I'm looking for a new power supply. I used to have a Seasonic M12ll 750w Bronze power supply but recently, the fan was rattling when I plugged in a new graphics card (Asus GTX 1080 Ti STRIX). It was ratting while I was playing GTA V and benchmarking with FurMark. I sent it back to the shop for warranty and they will give it to me within two to three weeks. I need a new power supply.

Anyways, here are my specs. Intel i7-8700 (I might upgrade to an 8086k), Asus GTX 1080 Ti STRIX, 2x8 16gb G.Skill Trident Z RGB RAM, Asus z370 STRIX-E motherboard, Noctua NH-D15, and a Silverstone Primera 01 RGB case (it comes with a fan hub and RGB controller). The case has four 140mm fans, three are RGB. ADATA XPG SX8200 249gb m.2 NVME SSD and 1TB Western Digital HDD 7200RPM

Thanks for the answers! I'm kinda iffy about Seasonic at this point.

What country? In the EU look for BeQuiet's Straight Power 11 or Bitfenix Whisper M, in the US look for the aformentioned Whisper M or Corsair's RMx 2018 series, in AU you are sod out of luck as BQ products are expensive as hell and Bitfenix is nonexistant, Corsair RMx should still be available though. 550w is plenty in all cases.

I live in the Philippines. Straight Power 11 is available here, as well as the various Corsair models. Would you consider 600 or 650w to be future-proof?

no, just bullshit.

550W is enough "Future Proof", more Watt doesn't give yo "more Future Proof" as nobody knows what Future will bring. And its unlikely anyway.
