AMD Polaris 10 GPU Reportedly Offers Near 980 Ti Performance For 300 USD

I'm wondering... if nVidia does NOT support Async with Pascal, if it would be a wise decision for me to head to Team Red and pick up an AMD card. We've seen the benefits of Async, and more performance is always welcome. I could pick up a 490X, then get Vega when it's ready.

Hmmmm......

That is the single most important thing I tell people to look out for when considering Pascal. If they don't have ACEs (or whatever they decide to name them), they'll not be worth considering AT ALL. I don't think this will happen though, and I'm more optimistic than people who say Pascal is just Maxwell 2.0. I don't think Nvidia is that dumb.

Hopeful, but AMD is king of over-hyping their products. I'll wait and see, fingers crossed.

Compute focused games probably wont come out for at least the next couple of years. At the moment Async-compute only brings a 10% increase in performance, that probably won't change for a while. IF Pascal is like 25% or more Faster than AMD then it would be worth considering, even without ACEs

Fully maxed out early 2017 Dell XPS 15, GTX 1050 4GB, 7700HQ, 1TB nvme SSD, 32GB RAM, 4k display. 97Whr battery :x
Dell was having a $600 off sale for the fully specced out model, so I decided to get it :P

-Crapbook

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

Lol? Couple of years? We already have 2 properly working titles with Ashes and Hitman. Quantum break might be broken, but its way less broken on AMD cards. The performance on Nvidia cards is much worse because the lighting uses async compute. Deus Ex MD is a dx 12 title and is due this summer. AMD has DICE in their bacj pocket and not only were they at thr forefront of Mantle, they've been outspoken in wanting the industry to move forward with dx 12. I guarantee that BF5 which due this year and mass effect andromeda, due next year, will both be dx 12 titles. I laugh at anyone buying a new graphics card right now that doesnt have ACEs. Good luck.

When are the new polaris cards expected to release ?
I really should have replaced my gtx 480 fermi BBQ edition already 1 year ago but haven't so far.

Before back to school season. So during the summer I would assume. Until then you can use your Fermi oven to make Oliebollen.

Watching Intel have competition is like watching a headless chicken trying to get out of a mine field

I tried to cook sausages in my Fermi (GF114).

They didn't cook. :(

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

Hmmm, if it is anywhere close to this, then I'll take 2-3.

Didnt say that AMD said those things

Then what's the point of saying it. If AMD said it would contend with, then what's the need for you in saying it was meant to destroy/crush nvidias cards? Not only that but you then get annoyed that it doesn't lol. Big thumbs up.

In dx 12, yea, but I doubt it beats a 980 ti in dx 11. Dx 11 is on its way out though so I guess it wins where it counts if this is true.

Being more games will be ported from consoles Dx12 is real realevant. Why do you think Ms is going full go with Pc store thing. Because it's the future.
