There are 290x models with 8GB already. TDP =/= power consumption, so unless new benchmarks so otherwise, it's the same card.

There is 290x models with 8GB yes, but now it's a standard on the card, and it comes with 1000 mhz overclock on the memory and 50 extra on the core.  Due to the fact they're binning more to get those speeds, they should OC further as well.

They called Fury an overclocker's dream. We will have to wait for independent reviews to confirm that... But for now I will say it's great to have a stock cooler which is over-engineered and rated for higher TDPs than required. Total 180 from the stock hawai launch in 2013.

I was expecting nothing but disappointment from this presentation but the last half of the show was awesome, it's great to see a true R9 290x successor at that same $550 price point at launch as well as a low power card with that kind of performance. Still gotta wait for the benchmarks to see if this excitement is justified though.

I think AMD have done something great, I was going into this thinking 1- too much power - and 2- rebrands.

I'd much rather take aftermarket coolers regardless. I'd like AMD to have most of their products water cooled, so that we can choose the good air cooled aftermarket coolers or the water cooled stock cooler.

So would I, but most benchmarks are done with stock cooler. Your average consumer will see that and think that AMD cards run too hot, even though an Nvidia card would also run hot if you stuck such a horrible cooler on it. That's why I hope for their sake, these coolers are better.

Not from what I've seen, I don't think the review embargo has been lifted yet.

They kept saying it's the new fastest GPU on the block, and considering the compute performance they stated, I somewhat believe it.

Nope

Interesting. I assume the Fury is supposed to be AMD's answer to the Titan (correct me if I am wrong please), so for that price......dayum

That dual Fiji card is going to be beast.

Glad I waited for the announcement. Now I hope the benchmarks come soon so I can finish my build :)

Useful if deciding whether one powerful card or two less powerful cards of equivalent performance has the greater heating effect for comfort reasons.

Like if you are looking at 290X CF, 970 SLI or 980 Ti they're all approximately equal performance but you're looking at ~300W for two 970s, ~600W for two 290Xs or ~250W for the 980 Ti. Not a great difference between the 980 ti and the 970 SLI, but massive jump up to the 290X CF, which you'll definitely feel in summer depending on where you live.

980Ti uses as much, if not more power than the R9 290X... how do you guys fail to read benchmarks... TDP IS NOT POWER USAGE.

Change in leadership seems to be going very well. I have a good feeling about Zen. It's too bad I don't think I can wait long for next build.

It's more or less AMD saying "we like the idea of top end cards like the Titan but they need to be cheaper"

I thought the small pc that is kinda hourglass shaped, looked pretty badass. Super small and with a dual Fiji card. But yeah, the nano was a showstopper.
