To be fair, I am an Nvidia guy. I guess by accident as I have noticed that most gpus I buy are from them.

I think AMD has very talented engineers, and great ideas. Sadly, I feel like that the company has poor management.

If you look carefully at the graph, look when it starts really seperating from Nvidia. This at the point in time, about AMD decided to, despite have the killer CPU, where Intel, yes Intel, was in serious trouble to a point that they played with the idea to not renew x86 license to AMD, and AMD decided to no longer pursue high-end, despite a very successful chip, which allowed AMD to gain big junks on the retail space, and all manufactured had an AMD option of their systems, to go low-end. They bougth ATI, and it went down hill from there.

What happen? Either every engineer got led poisoning, or the poor management of AMD penetrated ATI.

I don't even get why though. The 290 is such a steal, especially right now.

Guys this isnt funny. PC gaming as we know it can flop if AMD flops. No competition means there is no excuse for Nvidia to pull something (stupid) like make all GPU's cost a fortune. 

 

We are already seeing proof of them pulling something like this (*Cough* titan Z for $3000)

 

 

I strongly encourage people to support AMD even if they dont have the better product. They cant make good products if they dont profit. People need to just suck-it-up and buy their GPU's simply to support them and keep them alive for the competition. Not saying we all have to become fanboys, we just need them to survive in order to keep PC gaming somewhat cost effective and alive. 

 

just remember if AMD dies and the price of Nvidia cards skyrocket... you heard this here first. Nvidia has been doing some weird things lately so I dont see any reason why they wouldnt pull something stupid like this.

Never gonna buy Nvidia cards after Fermi....they are like jacking up prices now imo.

Maxwell and Kepler=Focused on Power Consumption, something that i don't really care about.

Also, i will never use any of Nvidia features anyway......like shadowplay or gamestream because i never use those application that would require those Nvidia features. 

I care about price to performance.....and that's why i would choose a R9 290 over a GTX 970 because similar performance yet way cheaper(around 100 bucks).

For all those complaining about heat output on AMD cards.....some R9 290 cards run cooler than a GTX 780.....

 

 

Fun Fact: My Gaming PC almost had a GTX 760, but i decided on a R9 270X to save some money.

Sad but true. It's especially frustrating when right now they offer AMAZING value for almost the whole lineup. Even the 970 is currently way more expensive than a 290x.

Here in Slovakia the R9 290 cost the same as GTX 970 which is 340-370€. And R9 290x is 380-420€.

All prices went up suddenly for some reason.

I really hope AMD can get back on their feet. When I was first getting into PC gaming I always went with AMD because they had such good price/performance. I ended up going with Nvidia for my last upgrade because it was a better choice in my price range at the time; but I would love to have that difficult choice again of choosing between the two. It's bad when there is a clear winner in competitions, which Nvidia basically is currently.

I agree with the CPUs, but AMD does make the best GPU for the money. People act like AMD GPUs are bad, when they are just as good as Nvidia GPUs for a cheaper price. Unless power consumption or the random Nvidia driver features (shadowplay) are really important to you, there's actually no reason you SHOULD go with Nvidia over AMD, unless you're buying a 980 or above(Even then, a 295x2 is better than a titan x for WWAAYYY cheaper).

Not just that card either. I have seen the ASUS 290 for $240, and the Gigabyte and MSI for $250. They just keep dropping.

I really don't think that $70 is worth about 5-10 fps, considering you can close that gap with an overclock.

Depends on your workload......if you like render a lot then a 8350 is a better choice than a 4430.
