Majority support for all states plus NT and ACT.

Screenshot_2017-12-07-18-51-05-36.thumb.png.1b6516806a296baad1ee8cb4796d3db5.png

ACT tried to legalise SSM in 2013, but because of Howard's edit to the constitution in 2001 (Which changed the definition of marriage, to make it so only a male and a female could marry), and couldn't be settled by on a state biases, nuling their law.

Very few electorates didn't have majority support, and the MP's for the electronic voted yes (43 for, 12 against in the senate).

There will not be any backlash on a state level. Australia's law didn't get changed from the law being unconstitutional unlike the US, the law changed because of votes, with a landslide win.

Apparently, Quebec especially Montreal is North America's porn capital. O.o

Anyway, winter activities in Quebec seems pretty but the language barrier is big for someone who doesn't speak French.

It will be a very foolish politician, party or lobby group who tries to turn this around.    It wasn't just Howard that stopped it last time though, Gillard also voted against it when labor were in power.  I dare say there was a lot going on the background that the public didn't know about.   As much as many people didn't want the vote, there was a good reason for having it and it will make any legal action almost impossible.   I'm just glad it didn't backfire.

meh, it'd be fine for me because I still remember enough French that I could survive and they wouldn't burn me at the stake for not speaking their beloved French at least /s, because the Québecois who are francophones tend to not be really nice to the anglophones it sounds like. Which I get it, Québec was originally settled by the French. France couldn't didn't want it anymore and let Britain have it so there is understandably a little resentment. Funny how that resentment has lasted through the generations though.

But I suppose since English Speaking Canada has tried in the past to get French speaking Canada to integrate more into English speaking, I guess that's how it continues. But PEI and a couple other provinces are a little more bilingual.

Meh, I'm fine with America since it's more fair to judge on a state by state basis over a nationwide basis.

As not to start a political debate in violation of the CS, I don't think @wcreek is a fan of Canada's current PM. I myself find him "just a pretty face" alone lately because of reasons NSFLTT.

When last week our prime minster stood up in parliament and formally apologised to LGBT Canadians who had been persecuted by the government, criminal courts, while in employment of the government or service the Canadian Forces and then, right after, the leader of the federal conservative party and leader of the official opposition stood up in parliament and apologised for those things as well... I think that Canada might have a lot more political consensus than you are imagining. :P

I guess for every political issue, there's always more to the story more than meets the eye. I still see him just to be a pretty face at the moment though but he's still have a lot to prove as he's only been PM for two years so I could be wrong. It just makes me mad that for years the Canadian government has been shipping their garbage to a poor country like Philippines as if we're their personal trash can though the current PM assured he's going to bring back those container vans of Canadian garbage-_-. Though I'm thankful that just like USAID, CIDA has projects to help my people like funding a few health clinics for pregnant women and children.

If he doesn't our homicidal president will launch the worst verbal grenades not only to the Canadian PM but to the Canadian people as well. He's a fan of identity politics. [/s] :P

Currently focusing on my video game collection.

Ding ding ding ding that is about right.

For being that I had a huge interest in Canada a mere 4-5 years ago when they were at one extreme and now they're at another extreme it's troubling at the least.

M103... Just an example of why America is better. Even if we got some not so grand features at least they're not like that. Or if it was it'd be overturned in the supreme court

let's please drop it here, I was just trying to make a neutral comment but someone as usual had to go and try instigate. It's annoying and unfortunately another reason this stuff is against the CS now.

Do you understand that M103 is not a law?  Like, it's not any form of legislation.  It is simply a powerless statement supported by the majority of paliment and I mean that without exaggeration.  There is no law that was passed, there is nothing that could be overturned by any courts or even by later governments because it doesn't actually DO anything.

I've seen this lack of comprehension as to how government works in Canada before however.  Here's an example:

https://www.narcity.com/news/quebec-government-bans-the-greeting-bonjour-hi-and-people-are-tearing-it-apart-on-twitter

"Quebec Government Bans 'Bonjour-Hi'"  No, no it did not.  It passed a MOTION.  As in the provincial parliament of Quebec went on record with democratic majority to state 'We'd prefer this greeting not be used'.  That's it.  There's no law and nothing is banned.  A motion has NO legal power what so ever.  It has the same level of authority as a sign in my front lawn saying 'Pickles are great' has to force my neighbours to eat pickles.

No.  Explaining the mechanical function of a nation's government is not a political issue as the topic is non-partisan. :)

You are upset by what you perceive as a law in Canada and I am pointing out that it's not actually a law.  I am in no way arguing with your ideology or politics.  I'm just pointing out that you don't comprehend what are and are not laws in Canada.

It would be similarly apolitical for you to point out that White House is in fact not located in the state of Washington.
