Getting super frustrated with x99..

It's sooooooooooo freaking buggy, IDK if it's my ram, my board or what.

I have 2 stable profiles saved for overclocks in my BIOS, and randomly they just don't work and I can't boot / post.

If I clear CMOS and re-load the profile, it works fine...

Been dealing with this for like a week now trying to figure out what's going on, IDK what it is.

Other times I can change settings to perfectly stable settings, and I fail to post. Clear CMOS and put the EXACT settings in I had before, and it works the first time.

If it doesn't stop I'm literally going to consider returning it all and going back to z97 where shit makes sense and works properly -.-

IDK, I've already gotten all the hwbot points I'm going to get out of it without dry icing or doing a custom loop.

I may try and get a used 4790k for like $250, & z97 soc force so I don't have to change my color scheme. Then buy a 980 ti with the leftover $.

May even be able to get a pentium G2358 from my friend that does 4.9 ghz.

You could just chill with a pentium until skylake happens.

6700k sounds mighty fine, assuming those rumors are solid

I feel like a pentium would hold me back from my daily activities so I'd just bench with it then re-sell.

  • 2 weeks later...

Found a guy on hardwareswap liquidating his stock from his website, 30% off everything on the site if anyone's interested.

http://www.liquidcool.net/

Apparently it's basically a company that copied bitspower's designs, and makes it for much cheaper, the fittings are dirt cheap and apparently the soft tubing ones are OK and have good QC.  Not sure about the hard tubing stuff.

Not sure if anyone is interested, but figured I'd leave it here.

Was thinking about getting some stuff, but I'm saving for a 980 TI Classified/lightning/matrix/HoF/KPE

Also a quick update I forgot to mention:

Got a set of DDR3 that does 2800 C9 for benchmarking, as well as a 4770k and SOC Force z97 board.

I was having loads of problems with x99, and managed to get around 100 HWBOT points using it, but the tons of problems I was having outweighed the benefits of me getting higher firestrike scores.

I returned it all for a full refund, minus like $40 in shipping, and bought a used 4770k + that ram + z97 SOC Force, so my build will still match.

The orange cables I got from icemodz should be in sooner or later, they were in NYC 5 days ago, so I'd imagine they'll be here any day now.

Since I got some leftover money since I bought the ram and CPU used, I will use that money to save up and sell my 780 TI Classified, and get a 980 TI custom PCB high end card like a matrix, kingpin, hall of fame, classified or lightning.

Depending on which one seems to fit my needs, I'll probably get one and start saving for a custom loop again.

PS: reason for buying a 4770k was I already benchmarked a 4790k on hwbot and got about as many points as I was ever going to get with it without Ln2 and super crazy fast ram.

On hwbot you get points based on how well you score vs other people with your hardware, so I can get more points with a 4770k to add to my overall points.

I also bought a pentium G2358 for hwbot as well, will probably sell it or kill it when I'm done, one of the two!

Do you have some spare seeds from your money tree? I'm thinking of growig one too ;)

It's all money I've spent on x99, just getting repurposed.

The money that paid for x99 was the same money I got from selling my 4790k+dominator platinums+m power + 780 lightning.

Really haven't spent much at all on my PC recently since it's all money that was just "recycled" :P

It's 2400 C9 XMP G.Skill trident x kit, but scales all the way up to 2800 C9 if you have a good IMC + push a bunch of voltage through it.

A guy on here that also does benching on HWBOT was selling it, provided me with full screenshots of all the profiles he runs on it as well as what settings to use etc.
