Overclock a non k cpu on b250m bazooka

I have a core i5 7400, and i want to overclock it to 3.3ghz on my b250m bazooka.  I have great thermals normal, and i want to see if i can get a little more power out of my chip. I am very new to overclocking, as the only over clocking ive done was on a q6600 bsel mod.

You can try increasing the BCLK but that's about it. Locked chipset + locked CPU isn't a particularly optimal combo for overclocking.

If you want to do overclocking, you should get an unlocked CPU. On a locked Kaby Lake CPU, the only overclocking you can do is tweaking BCLK and that won't give you any meaningful performance-improvement.

B250 boards are not known to allow overclocking features.

 

My brother's rig used to have a 7400 and sadly the slow clock speed was not able to be remedied. However, you can buy a used i5-6600 and sell your 7400 for the same price, if not more, and you'll get a free clock speed increase that way. It makes a fairly noticeable difference in games that struggle a little bit on the 7400.

No, I have never seen anything not Z chipset offering BCLK adjustments since LGA1151v1. It's unlikely you're hitting power limit either but that is user controllable so you could try raising that further.

i dont want to spend money right now as im going to get a ryzen this fall.

Then you're not getting to do overclocking. It's that simple.

Check the BIOS for a BCLK Multiplier setting. If you have it then you can do some sudo overclocking, but keep in mind that increasing the BCLK could affect the stability of other components in your system (RAM, PCIe cards), not just your CPU.
