So... What did I learn today yesterday?

 

I learned France is an opt-out country since 1976, and on the other hand, the country I live in is an opt-in country.

Learned today that a pair of "spy" glasses is possible after my brother forwarded a read; we had been talking about surveillance gadgets and related stuff for context. I'm not sure if that's just me but it did seem like a crazy idea. Takes some time and skill though as soldering is part of the process (here is the read in question: https://spycamerashd.com/how-to-make-spy-glasses/ ). Thankfully I don't think there would be any instance I'd need to use one.

That parenting is the most difficult thing to do in one's life and that sometimes "tough love" is necessary ?

TIL In North America, two types of ISDN connections were commonly used: Basic Rate Interface and Primary Rate Interface. BRI (Basic Rate Interface) used two B channels and one D channel, as indicated by the notation 2B1D. The two B channels were treated as separate connections by the network and could carry voice and data or two data streams simultaneously and separate from each other. In a process called bonding, these two 64-Kbps B channels could be combined to achieve an effective throughput of 128 Kbps— the maximum amount of data traffic that a BRI connection could accommodate. Most consumers who subscribed to ISDN from home used BRI, which was the most economical type of ISDN connection

I learned (or rather was reminded) how awesome it is to have excellent tap water available that rivals drinking water sold in stores. I just came back from a trip to Thailand where I always had to think about how many bottles I will need to buy from a store to have enough drinking water until the next time I go shopping.

We almost don't use them anymore and they are still used for some small electric appliances and chargers. But they are in process of being replaced because they are too fragile and don't set well after some time in the socket (I've read that in some newspaper, don't remember which one).

 

You find now more and more the CEE 7/17 (aka C17) as they are more securely set in the socket than the CEE 7/16 (aka C16) which is the one you showed

Today I learned that papayas have 3 different sex chromosomes and a papaya tree can be one of 3 different sexes - male, female or hermaphrodite depending on the chromosomes inherited. that my cooling system on Oxygen not included has a meltdown. as in the main machine melted.

I live in misery USA. my timezone is central daylight time which is either UTC -5 or -4 because the government hates everyone.

I didn't know they were about to be replaced, I still see them quite often. I just recently had problems with a phone charger with such a plug not remaining in the socket properly, I had to use an available water kettle to support it from below (not many options were available in that hotel room I was staying in).

The C17 does exist here but doesn't seem to be that common (yet). It should definitely improve the situation.
