Illegal and can get you expelled from your school. Contact your schools front office or IT, if they say no you are out of luck. Best bet is to download it and put it on a flash drive.

My advice is to look around at a few Ubuntu based distributions (Mint, Xubuntu, Kubuntu, Ubuntu Gnome, Elementary) pick one you like and stick with it. Give it a solid month and if you don't like it try again. Another piece of advice is that using the terminal/command line is not at all necessary with a Ubuntu based distribution, however learning the basics such as installing software and adding repositories will make using it much easier.
After using Ubuntu and its desktop Unity for years I recently moved to Ubuntu Gnome, trying out the various distributions and seeing the hard work and thought process of the creators is what makes using Linux great (imo). I would personally avoid using a windows clone because I think it goes against the point of trying something new. My personal recommendation would be to try Elementary or Ubuntu Gnome.

More of everything, everyone should be well educated. I personally believe Art is the most neglected and should be bumped up the most.

From my experience Wi-Fi through walls always results in a drop in speeds, I would try routing a cord or moving your router.

AMD's proprietary drivers are god awful. But that is going to be fixed soon™ with amd now adding the proprietary elements to the open source driver.
AMD's open source drivers are fantastic but miss a few proprietary elements that I need on occasoion.
Nvidia's proprietary drivers are pretty damn good. Just as long as you don't try to install them from their website.
I don't think nvidia's open source drivers are even worth mentioning.

To begin with I would pick a base that has a lot of support and documentation, such as Ubuntu or Debian. Then you should look around for distributions then pick the one you think looks best. Once you find what you like, try sticking to it for at least a month, if you don't like it try again with something different, or look into customizing it yourself as suggested above.

The desktop environments, Xubuntu uses XFCE, and Kubuntu uses KDE. KDE is not for low end computers and would probably run slightly better then Ubuntu's Unity. XFCE can run on very low end hardware, and should be very snappy on your specs.

    1) You're a terrible person for saying he killed himself just so that he could get attention (he was already rich, famous and successful, even though you had not heard of him before).
    2) In his own posts, which I recommend you read, he says that he did it to raise awareness, because nobody seemed to care when it was only poor and black people doing it.

This entire thread is making me sick. I get warned that I might get permanently banned for posting a cartoon nipple buried under several spoilers, and here we got people attacking mentally ill people, saying someone who killed himself after allegedly being sexually and physically assaulted several times by people he is suppose to trust "just out for attention". Hell even the mods are joining in...

Audacity is supported on Linux, and Libre Office is excellent. I'm not sure how well it will run on low ram though.
