Bungie has been gearing up to release a non-Destiny game, so I suspect that's the real endgame here. I'm sure Sony isn't counting on a future D2 expansion being the exclusive that makes Xbox owners switch in droves.

And yes, Sony is clearly doing this in response to Microsoft's Activision purchase. It's not nearly on the same scale, but it doesn't have to be... Sony knows its exclusives have generally been stronger, and even the Bethesda deal wasn't about to have PS5 buyers regretting their choices.

Coming from the state that evicted an entire elderly community to allow Musk to build a rocket base metres away from a wildlife sanctuary and then went on the allow him to blow multiple rockets up pretty much on top of the wildlife sanctuary I wouldn't expect Samsung to get into too much trouble for this.

I'm sure some politicians are lining pockets in the background somewhere.

Clearly this is all the fault of Nvidia, miners and scalpers trying to get their greedy hands on GPUs.

An exploitable bug being there for the past 12 years doesn't exclusively mean that for the past 12 year it was exploited, it means it's been written that way 12 years ago with nobody noticing it for that long
If it's been used nefariously in that period that's up for debate, but at least the moment someone discovered it got patched ASAP, unlike many closed source SW houses who rather wait for it to become news before even thinking of assigning someone to patch it.

False equivalency. If SUDO was closed source then this bug wouldn't have been discovered when it did and would still be possible right now.

Neither system is perfect, both have their benefits and disadvantages and anyone who seriously thinks OSS = less bugs doesn't understand how software works.

More chance of a bug being discovered =/= less bugs in the code to begin with.

Most likely yes, although the article mentions a "local" shell. There is virtually no difference in terms of access between an SSH remote shell and a local login so I doubt it wouldn't work.
iOS is not based on Linux.

    Summary

Apple is no longer offering IOS 14 updates to IOS 14 devices and has decided to discontinue support for IOS 14 using the pretext that IOS 15 is now stable and that Apple didn't really mean IOS 14 would be supported for as long as they originally said.

Apple is now forcing users of IOS 14 to update to IOS 15 if they wish to get any further updates. The final IOS 14 update is IOS 14.8.2 . It is my understanding that this update is no longer available for download on IOS 14 devices.

To be honest this feels like an insanely scmy thing to do. My impression was that IOS 14 would get security updates until IOS 16's announcement. Only offering a temporary respite makes no sense and it feels like Apple changing its mind after the fact and using vague language to justify it.

People who say "then just don't buy" are idiots. Why should people not be vocal about such garbage behavior from game devs? Allow one and next time 3 more will try. And if no one objects and enough idiots buy it anyway (and you damn well know there's always enough of those idiots), next time 30 developers will try it. And before you know it everyone will be jacking up prices of games.

AlTech reacted to leadeater in AMD hides its claim that 4GB of VRAM is ‘not enough’ just as it launches a 4GB GPU
A simple mindset change would probably help with this. Try and remember it's literally a laptop GPU slapped on a board with a cooler, do you actually want a laptop GPU in your desktop? No? Well there you go, it's sad and disappointing because it's a laptop GPU lol

Could AMD have done better with the 6500 XT? Well that depends, either it shouldn't exist or it should have got an actually dedicated GPU silicon design but that would be utterly pointless to do on the AMD side to invest that when supply is doomed and cost recovery is likely impossible.

Want a 6500 XT, buy an RX 580/590 new or used. Anything but this.

AlTech reacted to cj09beira in AMD hides its claim that 4GB of VRAM is ‘not enough’ just as it launches a 4GB GPU
4GB has been not nearly enough since the rx480 launched, as i have both models and the 4GB was always more prone to performance issues, that said, we can't ignore that its launching in a market that is anything but normal, where cards with over 5GB jump in price due to mining, and even non mining cards are hard to get due to shortages, amd had another die that is very cheap to make, with low board costs, so they made it, which imo is a big plus, this card is literally 1 gpu two memory chips, as simple as it gets, for those that dont have a gpu its a good option.
For us rx 480 owners we   for better market next gen.
But really i see the low/mid end dying, with silicon cost/transistor stagnating, and inflation on a everest climb, it really seems like our hobby is permanently more expensive, at least until something drastic changes it, like complete euv allowing less processing steps, idk.

Ps: for these lower end cards reviewers really need to have different standards, as for example i have never once used Ultra graphics with my rx 480, why would i i am loosing performance for no benefit, high and even medium in newer tittles looks great.

and for those saying "oh just buy used X card", most of those cards are 3+years old getting close to the point where they start to drop dead, so its quite the gamble to buy.

I was looking at street pricing when it went on sale earlier. In UK, they were listed starting £180 but I only saw one at £210 in stock. The only other similarly priced new GPUs you can buy at that time were 1050 Ti from £220 and 1650 from £240. If you had to buy a new GPU around that price, those are the choices. 6500 XT is still faster than both others even with its limitations.

self driving cars have been tested on public roads for like a decade at this point. Its not just tesla either. I also don't get the view that since its not able to self drive on 100% of roadways in any weather condition, then its worthless. If you want to say self driving cars are bad in certain streets in certain cities, then fine, even call for it to be banned there, but don't act like self driving cars aren't beneficial and are in fact dangerous while driving on the interstate during sunny weather.
