MrDBD reacted to Dedayog in No idea how to pick out a motherboard
You enable them too much. They'll never grow up to be responsible adults if you keep hand holding them 🙂

Guess I could asked a better way, sorry

MrDBD reacted to Somerandomtechyboi in Ryzen 5 5600X vs Ryzen 7 5700G
Depends on if you need more multicore or singlecore
5700g has half the cache of its non g 5600 and 5700 counterparts so yes itll be quite abit slower though judging by the 5800x3d which has tons of cache being basically unnafected by ram speed >3200 id assume you can mitigate some performance loss by running your rams as fast as possible or at 1:1 fclk ~5000mhz due to cezanne insane fclk ability but 5000mhz is well into pain territory for ram oc and not all boards can do 5000, doesnt really help that theres few 16gbit ics that can even reach those speeds (i only know of 16gbit rev b and cjr) if you wanna run 32gb and ryzen imc gets considerably worse with more ranks, not noticable on ryzens that do <2100fclk but this is a cezanne capable of 2500 ish fclk, not an issue if you just run 16gb ram since theres plenty of cheap good options, mainly klevv 3600c18 djrs
It does have igpu but thatll only be useful as a backup incase your gpu dies or something

MrDBD reacted to WWicket in What are the downsides to having a 4K monitor display 1440?
Generally yes, in practice, but not necessarily.
Whole ratio scaling [integer divisible scaling / direct scaling] (eg., 1080p to 4k --> 2:2 scaling --> every pixel just maps to a block of 4 pixels) won't cause blurring, just pixilation, and the resulting image will still generally be better than a native display at the lower resolution (less screen door effect/ smaller percentage of the screen should be inter-pixel space).
[real pixel data] ==> [real pixel data][real pixel data]
[real pixel data][real pixel data]
[100][0] [100][100][0][0]
[100][0] ==> [100][100][0][0]
[100][100][0][0]
[100][100][0][0]
In the above, see that the sharp boundary between 100 and 0 is preserved.
Non-integer divisible scales (eg., 1440p to 4k --> 1.5:1.5 scaling -> 😵
[real pixel data][real pixel data] [real pixel data][interpolated pixel data][real pixel data]
[real pixel data][real pixel data] ==> [interpolated data][interpolated pixel data][interpolated data]
[real pixel data][interpolated pixel data][real pixel data]
The simplest to understand method is nearest neighbor interpolation, where we just take the average value of the adjacent pixels:
[100][0] [100][50][0]
[100][0] ==> [100][50][0]
[100][50][0]
This method tends to make things blurry; note that the sharp boundary between 100 and 0 isn't preserved.
But there are much better scalers now and you won't necessarily get a blurrier image upscaling resolution; while 4k content on a 4k display is better than 1440p upscaled for a 4k display, it is entirely possible for 1440p upscaled to 4k to appear sharper than 1440p on 1440p native display, just depending on how well the scaler works (although it will never be technically as accurate of representation of image data as the native display. But with integer divisible upscaling, we can preserve image data accuracy if it is important by direct scaling! Sometimes you will not want to directly scale even if you can though, as more advanced techniques like edge detection and AI scaling can look better than directly scaled video. Direct scaling and interpolation techniques can be achieved with hardware scalers with essentially no added latency. More advanced scaling often adds latency 😪).
See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_gallery_of_image_scaling_algorithms for an interesting comparison of different scaling techniques results.

MrDBD reacted to RollinLower in What do y'all think of Samsung phones
i'm a sucker for exotic phone design, so ofcourse i love the galaxy fold series.
other than that, i dunno. Samsung has been a top player for years, but their budget offerings are always crap.

MrDBD reacted to porina in What do y'all think of Samsung phones
Last one I had was a S6, so it is a long time ago. My impression is nice hardware but I hate their software (prefer closer to stock android). They seem to be about the only people making half decent tablets which I'm still kinda considering but they're still way behind an iPad.

MrDBD got a reaction from HeroRareheart in I replaced the battery on my iPhone 3GS and this is happening
Thank you very much, the iPhone is not going into an endless boot loop, I think I will leave it to charge non-stop overnight and see if it works in the morning.

MrDBD reacted to Bombastinator in Need A Hand Finding A New Monitor
That may be harder than you think. There are a lot more monitor makers than there are panel makers. Samsung is one of only a few companies that actually make panels. The result is you could get a monitor by another maker that still has a Samsung panel in it.

MrDBD reacted to DemiGod in what should i upgrade
Your motherboard doesn't care about what gpu you are using, you could use rtx 3090 ti for all it cares, and It will work fine, the only limiting factor of what gpu you can install is power supply, since it might not be able to provide enough power for a every powerful gpu. Your cpu should do fine with any modern gpu, maybe not the high-high-end, like rtx 3090 but rtx 3070 should run without any problems, just to clarify rtx 3090 would run fine too, but you might be unable to use full performance. Anyways, as someone mentioned, get a good SSD if you have an HDD, otherwise, don't upgrade anything right now. If you want to slowly build a new pc, buy a new AM4 socket motherboard and ryzen 3600 or 5600, with ddr4 ram, replace your old parts, and enjoy, it's not necessary, but if you have to upgrade something I would go for those parts. Also r9 390 being unsupported is not a huge deal, it should keep working fine for years to come, except, that the new upcoming modern games, might not be optimized that well without new drivers.

MrDBD reacted to dilpickle in Why would you upgrade to Windows 11?
Why wouldn’t you?
We go through this song and dance every time. Remember those people who SWORE they would never upgrade to Windows 10? And before that they SWORE they would never upgrade to XP. And before that they SWORE they would never upgrade to 98. And before that the DOS people SWORE they would never use Windows at all. 😂

It seems pretty stable now, but I would wait until it has a feature you need/want.

MrDBD reacted to QuePasta in Windows 11 yay or nay?
Ive been on Windows 11 since the day of the official release, and I have not had any problems. Specs:
Ryzen 7 5800x.
32gb 3600 GDDR4
2060 Super
As for Gaming performance, I havent noticed too much of a change from windows 10.

MrDBD reacted to mr fobs in Windows 11 yay or nay?
I like it, but I would wait for another couple of months for the bugs to get ironed out a bit more. There aren't many, but enough to make waiting worth it.

MrDBD reacted to rcmaehl in Windows 11 Readiness Check (WhyNotWin11)
Hi all,
I've created a quick program to detect why Windows 11 may being saying that your computer is not ready. You can find the details here: https://github.com/rcmaehl/WhyNotWin11/ and the dowload here: https://github.com/rcmaehl/WhyNotWin11/releases/latest
Edit: I've released version 1.1, which gives more detailed returns on what passed and what failed.
Edit 2: I've released version 2.0, which should check all requirements except CPU Model #s (which is a soft check anyway)

MrDBD reacted to RockSolid1106 in How to slow down my battery from degrading over time.
I try to follow these:
NOT:
charge the phone above 85% let the charge go below 20% use fast charging I don't know how effective these are at helping a battery retain it's battery life, but I've pretty much gotten used to them. To me it just feels wrong to use a phone/tablet which it's battery lower than 20%. I don't know why.
My iPad which I bought over 5 years ago, still retains it's charge, very well I'd say, and I have used these steps/methods on it. It gives me around 1.5 days easily on a charge. Not so harsh use though.

Ive considered getting this, possibly on the switch. Looked kinda fun.
Eventually you will be like me. Have shit loads of games in your steam library and half of them never played or downloaded. Steam summer sale should be coming up soon, its a great time to buy games in bulk. LOL

MrDBD reacted to gloop in Just Five Words Sell for over $2m - Twitter madness....
Smart from the owner, dumb from the buyer. Sure, there’s a small bit of sentimental value but I’d damn well prefer having €2 million in my pocket compared to the first tweet on Twitter.
