Also when I removed the battery, there was massive bulge, the screws were simply holding it in. I'm going to attach some photosIMG_20220425_200710.thumb.jpg.94483cfef4674097961d23f1390b385b.jpgitIMG_20220425_200117.thumb.jpg.d2e0988e21510d7233d7d6de7ddeab1f.jpgIMG_20220425_195418.thumb.jpg.3001437f8027fd143c721a4006fc09a7.jpgIMG_20220425_195414.thumb.jpg.f4821f095a660193fc6bbb2854dfb28e.jpgIMG_20220425_195409.thumb.jpg.35411db88b85363c70a4bad5e8adcce4.jpg

That old battery was indeed failing, that's what happens to them when they start to fail. I'm unsure if this resource is helpful but give these things a try: iPhone 3GS endless reboot battery fix (ctpc.biz)

The battery is new and has just been plugged in.

As you can see, it lights up with the logo but then dims and the process repeats.

Things, happen it's alright. How did it act with the old battery?

I charged it for about a day and I booted into the os for about 30 seconds before dying, I couldn't boot into the OS afterwards. It kept displaying the apple logo but would then cut off and shut down. I left it plugged in for about 2 days straight.

Thank you very much, the iPhone is not going into an endless boot loop, I think I will leave it to charge non-stop overnight and see if it works in the morning.

Ahh, looked like it could be a boot loop judging by the video.

I left it to charge for about 10 hours overnight and now the phone randomly shuts down when I start using it, any suggestions?

The battery can't provide enough power to keep the phone going under load - e.g. it's too weak. Where did you get the replacement battery?

I'd suggest returning it as defective and buying one from iFixit.

https://www.ifixit.com/Store/iPhone/iPhone-3GS-Battery/IF142-005?o=1

It is the same part, but iFixit does make sure that they're adequate for the task.
