    SDRAM is probably synchronous dram.

All DDR4 is SDRAM, and all ram that the board supports is SDRAM. Label doesn't matter here.

The first version stated on MSI thats compatible for 5800X is 7C95vH0. Which is the release BIOS for this board.

+1 on @svmlegacy, also try to short the reset pin a minute after the power pin to see if anything happens to the debug light.

Keep in mind most CPU's idle at a very low power level anyways. Just get the regular 65W version.

Trust me, that motherboard is only putting out 66 W on the x16 port (12V only), if it has one. x1's are only rated for 6 W on +12V.

I agree with others here, the 5600 is the chip to choose.

Higher speed than the 5600, and doesn't have the unecessary 2 extra cores.

The exact RAM model is not on the supported list indeed, but a very similar model number with similar specs is, so I don't think that's the problem...

I don't think that's the case either. My GPU needs the 8 pin cable, but the power supply is pretty good (XPG Core Reactor 850W).

Since the system doesn't even post with the faster DHCP profile, I don't think that's the case.

Just checked on CPU-Z and they are.

Welp...this seems to be the root cause. I assumed that it will work because I was already running at 3200MHz, but I didn't know that I was already pushing the limits of the system...

Thank you very much @svmlegacy! Sorry that I skipped the basics before asking for help...

You'll sit in a lot of meetings. Sometimes someone will suggest something you don't think should be done. When this happens, accuse them of not being Agile.

Spend some time reading about memory timings. If you haven't optimized those already, you should be able to unlock higher speeds through that process.

svmlegacy reacted to Kilrah in Thought/ Build Experiment - What is the lowest power draw Plex capable NAS?
Not for transcoding since intel iGPUs can transcode in hardware with barely any CPU load and low power consumption while AMD's ones aren't supported by Plex and other similar software. For 10TB of redundant storage you can go with 3x 2.5" 5TB Seagates in RAIDz1 if you want HDDs. About 3W each.

svmlegacy got a reaction from planetary problem in AM4 question
I really can't speak to their higher end boards - the A320M-H is an extreme budget board, and is best described as "it works", with surprising range of CPU's. I've run everything from Carrizo Pro to Cezanne on it. In theory it works with all AM4 CPU's (though it does involve changing BIOS's.) It was stable during 24/7 NAS duty.

I would buy them again for basic purposes, but still would prefer more mainstream boards for higher power or OC.

Try to find a second hand AM4 mobo / CPU / ram combo. Even a Ryzen 3 1200 will perform as good as the 3570, and have a lot of usable lifespan left. They can be available quite cheaply as well.

Check if this is true before doing anything. Many wireless mice use two batteries in parrellel, to provide 1.5 V at a higher capacity.

You'll definitely want to do some reading on electronics before attempting this.

Agreed with others that the real answer here is rechargeable AA cells.

The point of PL1 is to take advantage of the thermal mass of the cooler, so I'd suggest leaving PL1 & 2 at the default and reducing tau to prevent excessive thermal throttling.

It would be good to increase PL1 (long power limit) to the max sustainable power your CPU can achieve within your "comfortable" temperature limit.

Keep in mind that working the GPU will increase the air temp in the case, causing the CPU temp to increase typically, as well.

svmlegacy reacted to Dukesilver27- in GPU Overheating, Especially at high FPS
This is not overheat, overheat is when your GPU reaches 95-100C, at which point the performance drops a lot to save the GPU. 80-95C is not unsafe territory, for my 6800 XT with OC, it is normal operating temperatures.
If you want to reduce thermal output, undervolt the GPU or limit power draw or adjust fan curve. Best option is to undervolt and adjust fan curve to your liking, this will reduce thermal output while maintaining the same performance.

OK, I found a few things that make sense:

Windows was misreporting the CPU, CPU-Z (which thanks for the shout out, but I'm nerd enough to know about that one already as I had him go for that when he could and ...)

He actually has an i5 4590.  I thought it would be that it was misreporting but at the same time, I thought I'd check.  I've heard of come CPUs fitting in sockets not meant for it and running but with... substandard results and crashes so that's why I thought to ask about it.  Thanks for the information though.

I've given him instructions on how to unzip the prime95 latest build and do a quick test with it.  If it crashes here because of high temps then that's our culprit... being as old as it is, anyone else think a new application of thermal compound would be something to try before dolling out for a proper air cooled tower or AIO?... that is if it ends up being a heat issue... if it's the PSU well that's easy enough.  Hope it's not a dieing CPU...
