Hi, I am a computer noob that needs advice on whether or not I should upgrade my CPU and/or motherboard.

I'm currently using the motherboard from when I first built my very first PC 5.5 years ago: an Asus Z370-A II, with a Intel Core i9-9900K I upgraded to 2.5 years ago (because it's compatible with the motherboard).

When does it become a good idea to upgrade your CPU and/or motherboard?

Usually when it doesn't perform as well as you need it to, for example you get high freq RAM and you're mobo doesn't allow you to achieve it, or you get a new GPU and it bottlenecks because of your CPU

When the functionality of the PC starts to decrease and/or you can't do the things you used to.

Have you tried turning it off and on again? Maybe Restart it?

1) When you have cash burning a hole in your pocket and need to get rid of it.
2) Work: When it's not performing up to par anymore or when an upgrade would make/save more money within a given future time-frame through productivity.
3) Play: When it's not performing up to par anymore or when you think/discover an upgrade would increase your enjoyment enough to warrant the investment.
4) Sharing:  When you're close enough to (1) and someone you know/care about could get great use out of your existing hardware...upgrade yourself and gift them a PC/components for a wholesome win/win.

Thanks for the advice everyone. It seems I am at the point where my CPU has started to bottleneck the rest of my system.

I’d say about now, I went from 8700k to a 13600k and it was a huge improvement. So look at a 13600k to 13700k for your self

usually I go when there’s 50 percent single core perf improvement

-13600kf

- 4000 32gb ram

-4070ti super duper
