Everytime my mom tells me to get off the computer or xbox I just turn off the tv/monitor and then she leaves
I turn it right back on when she leaves.

My brother telling me that there are laptops that use desktop parts.

Some teachers in my school pick a certain student to help them when an error pops up on the computer. They also ALWAYS have 30+ tabs open in IE too.

My mom being paranoid about hackers after seeing people having their webcams hacked on the news. She thinks when the computer is powered off that the hacker can still see you if your system is hacked.

A kid in my school had his flash drive full with music. When he brought his project in, it was saved as a shortcut because he didn't have enough room on the flash drive. The teacher called in the tech person at the school to figure out the problem, after 10 minutes they finally figured it out. I figured it out when on the flash drive it said "shortcut" under the file the second they had the problem.

When an advertisement says "featuring a 4th generation intel i7 processor!" instead of actually saying what the hell is inside the thing.

That's all I can think of right now, sure I've experienced a crap ton more of these dumb experiences.

Feel free to share any artistic work that you have created.  Here are some of mine.

Geneva Motor show a few years back, I went with my cameras and tripods to do some timelapses.

The following is a mood thing, while riding a boat across Lac Leman one day I decided to film something with my Fuji X-E2

    Where I live

One of my early night sky timelapses... too bad I don't live in a place with zero light pollution

And one of my failed attempts at making a timelapse of flowers blooming, like what BBC did for their Planet Earth videos.  I set up a room where I controlled the lights, the camera was powered by an AC adapter.  But watering the plants and changing memory cards... it was a nightmare to keep everything constant that after a few days I gave up.

I still have several hours worth of footage to be cut and edited... too bad I don't have much free time.

    Update time!
Hey guys, time for another update, in this update we will be covering some new components and some minor modifications.
I've been trying out some different methods of painting and also some different types of paint to see what gives the best result and I decided to go with semi-matt black paint for most of the components in the build, such as the fans, some details on the motherboard and the RAM sticks.
I didn't have time to get everything I needed ready so I could begin painting the case but some good news, I've decided to try my luck on Paracord since I haven't really worked with it a lot and I wanted to try something other than Teleios.
I will most likely begin sleeving the PSU in a week or two, now that school's started again I don't have as much free time on my hand so there might be a slight change in the pace of updates.
Onwards to some pictures! I decided to try painting the Noiseblocker E-loops with gunmetal grey plasti dip, I think the finish turned out good but unfortunately the layers were a bit too thick so it couldn't move freely whilst mounted, this is a risk I was aware of but I decided to give it a shot anyways.
The final decision was to use semi-matt black spray paint for the fans and I'm absolutely in love with the results.

These are some more detailed photos of how the finish turned out on the case.

And here's a little surprise that I haven't really told many people about, I decided to go slightly old-school with the ram and I bought some old DDR2 OCZ Reapers to "borrow" the fins on and put them on my new set of 32gb's 2133MHz RAM. Here are some glamour shots!

Adblock for me blocks annoying ads, but i have it disabled when i'm browsing LTT, and i have some weird script that disables it on LTT video's and some other things, i don't know. Anyway, i hate ads, but i accept them for people i want to support.

So, some of you are aware, some not that I am about to relocate from Melbourne to Perth.

My wife is originally from Perth, I lived there for about 5 years which is where we met and I've been offered a job there so we have decided to move back. The distance from Melbourne to Perth if you drive is about 3500kms, or just short of 2200miles for my American friends.

We have packed up our entire home, that is getting picked up tomorrow! and sent by rail in a 20ft shipping container. Tomorrow we will also send our 2x dogs over by plane and they will be collected by my wife's parents. Then Saturday the day after my wife and child are flying out to Perth, then on Sunday I start to drive...

    Why drive?
Well a couple of reasons. 1. It's much cheaper. 2. We can take stuff in the car we need immediately and things we don't want handled by movers (eg the NCASE M1 and my NAS )

Now, I've done the drive a few times before, so I know what to expect, previously I've been good at knocking out a large amount of kms. The first day I should be doing between 1500-1900kms then hopefully, finish the trip on the 2nd day.
The first time I did from Melb to Perth it took 3 days in a commodore, the trip back from Perth to Melb I did in a 3.0TD Surf with 2x drivers and we did that in 38hours. Then I drove back from Melb to Perth again in the 3.0TD Surf in 48 hours, then I drove from Perth to Melb in a convoy (me in my car, a Patrol and my wife in her car, a Forester) and it took 5 days...

    A bit of fun...

So I got a GoPro from my old work as a parting gift and then I thought it would be cool to vlog the whole way, so I borrowed a 2nd GoPro so I'll have 1 camera rotating around the car and a 2nd for a 'cockpit cam'. I'll upload the video once I've edited it. There was some logistics I needed to overcome though...

The GoPro only has a couple of hours battery life, the SD card can record for about 5 hours and I didn't want to be stopping every couple of hours so...
I bought a 2nd suction mount and glued some industrial velcro to it, then the same to some small (2600mAh) battery packs! what can go wrong right! The 2nd suction cap mount will be there to hold the battery pack but also as a backup mount in case the main camera mount fails.

    Also worth mentioning...
Sunday when I leave will be my Birthday! My 30th actually, I'm a little bummed that I wont have any family or friends around but that's just the way it planned out so i'll try make the most of it and maybe open some presents as I drive across!
It will also be the longest I've been away from my family which i'm sad about but its only a couple of days but still, first time and I enjoy being part of my daughters life every day.

So that's my little offtopic share, I don't know if anything would be interested in seeing teh video I do of the drive or not.

    has anyone done anything similar?

I do report non-good news from Microsoft, but I am usually beaten to it. I think they (news/blog) used as click bait with over-sensationalized titles (as it is easy to do), ans spreads everywhere on the web, so other here are able to post it faster than me. I used to post all kind of news, but I started to be beating to it in there as well, so I am trying to find a spot. But yes, you are right, I do need to try and find a balance.

To get something quality it's really time consuming, though I don't think you'll have trouble learning PHP or wordpress itself as long as you start with a free theme with all of the basic functions and get it over starting from scratch.

Anthony10 reacted to Curufinwe_wins in (Dell - US) Dell XPS 13″ Infinity Display Quad HD+ Touch Core i7 $1199
I did say it was about 10% heavier and lighter. As Linus put it the ultra slim bezel is a mixed blessing in many ways. The keyboard on the XPS is ultra bad. This was pointed out in Linus's review. It has 'unacceptable' amounts of flex with poor keys.

Why is the ASUS heavier and larger? It's an all metal unibody instead of the metal plastic (EDIT: It's plasticized carbon fiber and metal, but it has way less rigidity than the zenbook either way.)  mix of the Dell. The Dell still makes compromises, as does the ASUS, but man when the prices are that different (which btw no one else has the xps available anywhere near that price for those specs, but it looks like temporarily a 'relatively good' as in 300 dollars off deal).

You can see my review in the reviews section it talks ALOT about the differences and benefits between them, and at the sticker prices listed (I omitted this price because its a stray ebay sale, and no one else sells it anywhere close.)

I mean look for the price difference (even in this case of 350 dollars) are you honestly going to tell me its worth it? I don't think so but that's just my opinion.

    @5:09

Also I really don't like asus products in general. I absolutely hate their rog laptop lineup, their gpu coolers have been subpar this generation, and their mobo's are just stupid.  BUT of all the ultrabooks I have came into contact with, this one is literally the only one I have really been lambasted by (probably because of the feature set and build quality while being massively cheaper than Dell, MSI, HP, Lenovo and Apple.)
