Ankerson got a reaction from LaczPro19 in CoolerMaster MWE 750W Gold: Good of Bad!?
Yeah, they aren't too bad actually.
And it's on my list of known working PSUs with the 3080 and 3090, MWE 750W Gold to be exact.
So there is that.

Ankerson got a reaction from cgavaller in Server PSU in ATX Case
Just about every good quality PSU 750W and above has 2x CPU 8 pin connectors.

Ankerson got a reaction from icy3309 in Will my PSU be enough for this build? PSU Recommendation
NO, you will need at least a 750W PSU and that is just for the 2X 8 Pin cards.
For the 3X 8 Pins cards at least an 850W PSU is needed.

Ankerson reacted to 8tg in PSU degradation over time with 80+ Platinum rating
I have one of these, which is 17 years old, and is showing no signs of any problems including some proper bench testing for ripple and peak wattage.
A good power supply lasts, they are not disposable. You wont see any issues with a high end 550w unit thats only a few years old.
There are people still using now decade+ old corsair HX series platinum units, they tend to work as they should until they suddenly dont, and even that is a pretty rare occurrence if the psu is used the way its supposed to be.

Ankerson reacted to Quartz11 in Old Corsair AX750 : retire or use?
Ok, yeah that's my plan--keep it as a backup.
Thanks for the advice.

600W power draw from a 200W PSU, that is strange.
Am I the only one that sees a problem here?
I can see the Reddit and posts here coming now.... 🙄
"Well you only need a 200W PSU here is the video etc, etc." 🙄

Ankerson reacted to Beerzerker in Is it a good idea to connect a 9-10 yeard old PSU in a new build?
I certainly don't wish it upon anyone myself. 😎

Yeah, exactly.
Hopefully not the hard and expensive way.

Ankerson got a reaction from SFFDesigns in Is it a good idea to connect a 9-10 yeard old PSU in a new build?
It would be best to replace it if building a new system.

You will be fine with that one.

Ankerson reacted to seon123 in What's the best trustworthy bang-for-buck PSU manufacturer?
Ignore the brand, and ignore anyone that recommends by brand. Everyone is equally capable of selling crap.
Well, that would indicate that you have a very high end system. >700W, so I assume a 3080? You should try to stop cheaping out on the PSU, or, if you don't have a 3080, tell us your actual specs.

Ankerson got a reaction from SFFDesigns in Will a 500w EVGA W1 be fine with a Ryzen 5 2600 + 2070 super?
I wouldn't use it. no way.

Ankerson got a reaction from flickofdawrist in TX650M vs. Seasonic Core GM
650W is the BARE MIN required for an RTX 3070.
So if one was buying a PSU then it would be better to get a 750W vers for more headroom for future upgrades, that and better cabling options.
But if one already had the 650W PSU then just use that, but I wouldn't buy the 650W PSU now. 😉
So you can spend the $25 now or end up buying two PSUs overall once you upgrade or whatever later on.
-
Ankerson got a reaction from Citrusflavour01 in How will a 650W PSU fair with a RTX 3070?
It's the bare min recommended for a 3070.
It will work, but not so much room to upgrade later.

Ankerson got a reaction from flickofdawrist in TX650M vs. Seasonic Core GM
The Corsair TXM is a higher end PSU, more middle of the road compared to the entry level Seasonic Core.
The TXM uses better, higher end components than the Seasonic Core.

Ankerson got a reaction from wONKEyeYEs in Cable extensions for RTX 3090 plus PSU question
Nope, 18 AWG is NOT enough, 18 AWG is crap.
And cable extensions are NOT a good idea in the 1st place.
Go to Cable Mod and see if they have cables for your PSU, not extensions, the full cable kit.

Ankerson reacted to seon123 in EVGA PSU ??????????????????
There are no actual in depth reviews for it, so I wouldn't even consider it. LLC + DC-DC, so it's probably not complete garbage, but would still not buy it. If you are actually going to get decent hardware, I really recommend you get an actually decent PSU, instead of trying to cheap out as much as possible. The Thermaltake GF1 650W is $90 after rebate, and is an actually reviewed, good PSU.

Ankerson reacted to flibberdipper in Corsair TX750w fan replacement
If you try running a normal 3 or 4 pin fan of the PSU there are a couple problems there.
1. Obviously the plug won't fit unless you de-pin it and use the connector from the stock fan (or do the even more questionable method of pulling the housing off the PSU's board)
2. In the case of a PWM fan, it might not like changing speed based off DC instead of PWM (I have a few Corsair fans that shriek like banshees if you try DC controlling them)
3. A standard case fan will leave a good bit extra wire inside the PSU if you end up plugging it straight in
Something else I like is just being able to control the speed myself. If my room is hot, I could just ramp the fan up. Or if I'm drawing more power than usual for whatever reason, I could ramp it up more.
Good lord. Just because a PSU is old doesn't mean it's automatically going to go haywire and kill your family. I've got PSUs that are well into their 20's that I trust more than my 6 year old EVGA unit.

Ankerson reacted to JamesTheFolf in Do I need 850w PSU for 3080?
Yeah I'd go for the 850w, the 3080 can have some pretty extreme power spikes.

Ankerson got a reaction from Analog in Does a 8 pin to 2x 8 pin also only provide 150w max?
They don't have the cooling or the PCB to support it, and just 2x 8 pin.
