Cable extensions for RTX 3090 plus PSU question

mr fobs

Alright bois, I have finally ordered my ASUS ROG STRIX 3090 and have a few questions. (look at signature for build info)

The first is about my PSU. I also purchased along side the 3090 a NZXT C850 Gold PSU. I already have this because I originally was going to get a 3080, but well here I am. Is this enough? From what I can tell it should be with my build.

Second Question is about Cable Extensions. I found these which come with 3 PCIe connectors however it is 18AWG. Now to be doing maths I can see that 18AWG should be fine for a 3090, but Asiahorse says that 18 AWG is NOT enough on this product.

If 18AWG is not good where can I can 16, 12, or 10?

Thoughts? Concerns? Eventually I would like to bump up to a 5900x, but that is not as important at the moment.

Sorry I probably edited my post. Refresh plz. Build Specs Below.

Nope, 18 AWG is NOT enough, 18 AWG is crap.

And cable extensions are NOT a good idea in the 1st place.

Go to Cable Mod and see if they have cables for your PSU, not extensions, the full cable kit.

Best to stick with the OEM cables then.

The Seasonic Focus Gold cable kit should work from cable mod.

The C850 is basically a Seasonic Focus Gold.

  • 2 weeks later...

Not that anyone cares at this point, but I now have the C850 paired with the ROG 3090 and it runs great. The stock cables from the C850 don't look as clean as cable mod, but they aren't bad. I can hide the extra plug doodads pretty well. Would recommend.

cablemod doesnt advertise it, but they use 18AWG even on their pro series kits

As long as it's not for the PCIe, 24 Pin and EPS 18AWE is fine.

I just cancelled an order cuz they told me all of their cables are 18 gauge except the 12pin microfit. I'm just gonna sleeve my own cables, cheaper anyway
