CoolerMaster MWE 750W Gold: Good of Bad!?

AntiSpiral

Hellouu people!!

So TLDR: I've check the TIER LIST and I've recommended a few times this power supply for a mid-range system and I've recived a lot of criticism on this matter of people claiming that this PSU is bad cause of bad general reviews on internet. So after checking that with the list now I'm kinda confused of mixed information. Basically, who is right?

Thanks in advance!! ❤️

PS: this is the PSU that I'm talking about

Well tier B is not that bad

It's not great either when considering price imo...

But there are better PSU specialists in the forums.

In Spain the price of this one is 95€. I couldn't find another Tier B range PSU on that price though... that's why I recommended it

And also point being is that the people who complained about this PSU being bad, all pointed out that a Seasonic S12III is better, when is a Bronze PSU listed as a Tier C   o_O

In eastern europe there are SilentiumPC FM2, Adata Core Reactor and XFX XTR2 at similar price.  Not saying all these are better ... but they are tier A

I guess the price and availability differ a lot depending on region of the world.

the S12iii is nowhere near as good as the MWE Gold

MWE Gold is a pretty decent unit.

also who complained about i being a bad unit? PCMR subreddit?

They quoted this "MWE V2 units have high ripple issues on very low load also resulting in increased coil whine"  among other things like (I translate): "check about those people who claim to know and work that much with PSU cause CoolerMaster, no matter that it's V2, is among the worst PSU on the Tier list. Not a good choice at all"

This comes from a spanish forum

um........ they havent looked into the subject as far as i can tell.

the MWE gold is not in the group or PSUs that are known as MWE V2. and does not have those issues.

yeah that is a minor issue on some lower end MWE V2 units. the MWE Bronze V2 and white V2. which are both pretty decent units. then again, its a minor issue and really isnt a dealbreaker.

one would think that reading the list is fairly simple, and if there are any significant issues, the units get detiered. also i happen to read why things are changed on the list, and the even the MWE V2 units have no dealbreakers atm. and the issues those units have do not apply to the MWE Gold.

I've used both MWE Bronze and Gold and from a non-expert opinion both looked pretty decent. The MWE Bronze I used on a budget build, around 600€ PC; and the Gold one went into a Ryzen 9 + RTX 2060 system

the issue is, a consumer cant really tell the difference between a poor but functioning unit, and a good unit.

old MWE bronze was kinda "eh"

would you be suprised to know that artificially weighing PSUs are/were a thing?

Ohh really? Well....if you think about all the things manufacturers do to "cheat" then I wouldn't be surprised, you're right ^^'

Keeping a running tally.

I saw that the one who posted that said to have some USB issues while rendering....

Besides that, isn't too tight for a 3090? Even for a 3080 ...

Most of it is going to depend on the actual card.

Whether it's a 2x 8 Pin or 3x 8 Pin 3080 or 3090.

The 3080 FTW3 Ultra can pull 450W +

The 3090 FTW3 Ultra can pull 500W +

For those a min of a 850W PSU is highly recommended by EVGA.

For the rest a 750W should be fine as they pull around 330W to 365W or so. (2x 8 Pin)

The ASUS Strix 3080 and 3090 also pull a lot of wattage, more than 450W so..... Would be the same as the EVGA FTW3 cards.

In short to make it easy:

2x 8 Pin 750W PSU.

3x 8 Pin 850W+ PSU.

And a high quality PSU that can handle the transient power spikes.

Bitfenix Formula Gold and Whisper M can be added if you want to.

soldered models of 550w units (to allow 2 rails to GPU) are known to work with the rtx 3080. (450w and 550w variants have single rail to GPU, and iirc its with the founders cards))

add 750w on the safe side, 650w version should also be fine tho i havent heard explicit confirmation on that one.

Most of what we are dealing with NOW on the EVGA forum are the 450W and 500W 3x Pin 3080 and 3090 FTW3 cards right now.

Since those are the 1st ones out through EVGA.

BUt yeah I will add the 750W Whisper M to be on the safe side.

yeah, fair enough. i thought id just add that unit given it isnt transient sensetive, and the 550w tripping is due to the rail config

I can add the Whisper M 750W....

The Formula Gold, OK I see it...

Have to add them later, the forum is having some editing issues right now.

So is there a TLDR for when "very lovely people" trying to complain about stuff like this MWE 750 Gold? I know how moronic they are and won't dive into the typical internet arguing, it's more a learning thing for me 😃

prefferably you confront them with how inexperienced they may be in regards to PSUs. or you just ignore them i suppose. plenty of people who comment on PSUs who dont really know anything.

or even better do the classic:

Spoiler

UnrealisticBiodegradableBluejay-size_restricted.gif.f11d07e54ab70523f82a26dfd0709074.gif
[Citation Needed Gif here]

for where they missquoted the list to support their argument, which isnt a good start, especially when the rest is hearsay (and good lord there is a lot of bad hearsay in regards to PSUs)

and ill be honest, i have a very basic understanding of which units are good, and why that might be the case. i have been wrong plenty of times, but i try to get better at it.

What it pisses me off is the behaviour of people on internet and forums, just diving in and claiming superior knowledge out of nowhere. And when it was 2 doing the same thing quoting eachother I just wanted to slap the shit out of them, honestly xDDD
