Gedgn got a reaction from btng in Question about power supply calculators + wattages
I second it, that doesn't make any sense.

@btng Wattage calculators are garbage, don't trust them.

550W is fine if not OC'ing, a 650W-750W if you are OC'ing, depending on your overclock.

Wattage calculators are crap, don't use them. Take what the calculator gives you and cut it in half. A good 550W PSU will handle everything just fine. Only real reason to go with more than 550W is for dual GPU setups, even then those are pointless.

As for the case, have a look at the Phanteks Pro M Special Edition, very roomy for many applications, server etc.. Or look at my signature.

    PSU calculators are not accurate.

Look, PSU calculators are trash and PCs don't require that much wattage, normal users, even work stations (depending on setup) barely go over 550W.

Look at the tier list below and look between 400W to 550W for your psu. No need to go over that, especially not for your current builds.

A 550W power supply will do you better than a 650W.

That psu ranks in tier 2 of the psu tier list. Never used a thermaltake psu so I can't comment, but I can comment on the use of RGBs on a psu.. is well ridiculous.

Where ever you read that, don't read there writing again.. You could run that on a  450W with an i7-8700K  both overclocked.

Run a 140W i7-7800X if you want on a 450W with that card.

PSU calculators are inaccurate and I don't suggest them. What are your specs? Will you be overclocking?

I'd advise you not listen to your best chosen answer. To give you a rough outlook what you do is add the cpu and gpu wattage then add an additional 100W. That is by no accurate as there are many factors to consider, just know 450-550W PSU is the max any normal user would need, even OC'ers. You see people getting 650W- 1000W PSUs because they don't know what they're doing.
Don't link outervision it's trash and should be banned as it gives users the wrong impression.

I vote the top 2 cases. Meshify C and Phanteks Pro M (look at the special edition.)

    The rest:
    LianLi = poorly designed
    FD R6 = you don't need unless space/hdd is a requirement
    Corsair 460x = horrible airflow

Gedgn reacted to Herman Mcpootis in Any suggestions on what power supply I should get?
550w is more than enough for overclocking the 8700k and 1080ti. but with a 1.9k budget, i'd get a slightly better PSU.

It sounds like you have a prebuilt, you may need to upgrade the psu.

I actually looked into this case for a friend. First things that came to mind is "compact mid-tower budget RGB" case is how they are marketing this. First they aren't focusing on airflow, but looks; TG, RGB, side mounted gpu.. Also the side mounted brackets will trap heat below the gpu and give you a bump in 2-3 degrees by not removing the brackets.

Not a recommended case. Stick with the H700 and be happy.

Really no difference between the brands, other than reference style components, not custom coolers etc on the lower end cards.

I know it may sound odd but drive bays are still very much in use and the fact that customers want them shows in the Define R6. They have their place in builds. You can google a list of gadgets to put in the 5.25" bay. There are like 30+ gadgets you can use in there.

Short list include: Reservoir, fan controller, hot swap bay (two more ssds), drawer, usb hub and card reader etc.. Heck you can put another PC in a 5.25" inch drive bay lol. But yeah I digress, I wouldn't choose one over the other because of a drive bay, plan your build accordingly and see whats best for you (water cooling, radiator support, cpu fan cooler like the NH-D15 room etc..)

Another +1 for Phanteks Enthoo Pro M. I got the special edition in white and it's gorgeous. It comes with 2x 140mm RGB fans as well.

Look at a Meshify C or since you want a dvd tray look at the Phanteks Pro M (https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811854042) both are fantastic for airflow, while the Phanteks is a little quieter.

I love recommending this case because it certainly is a diamond in the ruff and as another member of this forum said doesn't get the recognition it deserves

This case is good for airflow and is pretty quiet.

I dealt with NZXT cases and it was a horrible experience from an airflow perspective, s340, H440 etc.. the H700 is only margianally better at airflow than the s340, H440 and H500, if you want comparisons.

I mean this is a great case and if I hadn't researched further into finding a case to replace that horrible s340 I wouldn't have found it because everyone only recommends NZXT Elite, Phanteks Eclipse, or Fractal Meshify C (which is a good case).
