Any suggestions on what power supply I should get?

I'm building a gaming pc for my first time and need help on which PSU I should get since it will have some rgb lighting on the inside. A friend said my 550w won't be enough and it might break some parts on the inside if its not enough idk so I was wonder what PSU I should be getting. this is my build so far: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/v4mC4q

550W is plenty, just bump it up to a 80+ Gold. You'll even have headroom to OC.

Best & worst cases for your money in 2018 are:

Best Cases overall

I) Fractal Design Meshify C - Airflow and relatively quiet, best all around case

I) Phanteks Enthoo Pro M / Special Edition (white interior) - Airflow & full water cooling support

I) Fractal Define R6 - Silent with decent airflow

I) Be Quiet! DB 900 (Full Tower) - Airflow and silent

I) Fractal Design Meshify C mini (mATX)

I) Corsair 400C - Only use with low end components, no 1080 / TI

I) Phanteks 350X - Only use with low end components, no 1080 / TI

I) Fractal Design Focus G

Cases that may be worth your money

I) Thermaltake G21 - GPU and CPU cooling issues, modest tweaking
I) Silverstone RL06 / Pro - Mustard/Ketchup wires, Shitty cable management, Poor front radiator support, useless psu filter, stupid ssd layout
I) In Win 303

I) Coolermaster H500 no suffix - if 200mm fans are your thing

I) NZXT H700 non "i" version - Needs to come down in price to be worth it

I) Corsair Carbide 100R - Suitable for low end builds

The worst cases - Do Not Buy

I) NZXT S340/Elite, H500, H440 (everything except the H700) Reason: Poor airflow
I) Coolermaster Masterbox 5

Majority of cases on the market

Nvidia recommends 600W for the 1080ti. In my 8700k/1080ti system, I have a Cooler Master V750 (mostly because of total size limitations of my case). I would shoot for a 600W unit just to cover all of your bases. The power supply section of the forum has a tiered list for PSU's, I'd definitely recommend checking it out.

550w is more than enough for overclocking the 8700k and 1080ti. but with a 1.9k budget, i'd get a slightly better PSU.

Your friend is clueless, then, do not trust him. The system will draw under 400W, and 550W is in fact more than 400W. Even if it wasn't enough, it would just shut down, like nearly any decent PSU (even lots of crappy ones shut down).

550W is plenty, even assuming you're overclocking. Since you're getting a 1080 Ti, You can definitely afford a better PSU, like the Focus Plus Gold for $65 or Whisper M 550W for $77.

For the rest of the build, definitely change the motherboard. It's one of the worst Z370 boards, as it's just a dressed up Z370-P. For a better motherboard, you could get the Z370 FTW or Z370 Extreme4 (both are cheaper and miles better), or the Z370-F, if you absolutely want an Asus board.

There are good 1080 Tis available for $30-70 less than the one you chose.

The X62 can be changed for the CLC280 or H115i Pro. Both are high end 280mm AiOs, also made by Asetek.

650 to 750W should be fine.  Overall looks good.

The 1600W AX1600i would also be fine. That doesn't help OP much either.

They recommend 600W because they're assuming the worst case scenario with the worst possible PSUs. With a 1080 Ti and a 7820X, you'll draw under 400W under a gaming load, less with an 8700K.

The only "benefit" OP would gain with a 600W PSU over a good 450-550W PSU is higher fan noise (if they like noise).

If your display is only 1080p you don't need a 1080ti

You could get that right now and still have perfectly fine gaming performance

At the very least wait until the 20th as Nvidia is likely to announce a GPU that's faster than the 1080ti

and get a case that actually has airflow, like the CM H500

JFC, what's with all the 750w recs? @noobhead450w is fine stock,  550w is plenty even with a heavy overclock... Get a WhisperM/RMx 2018 for a better quality PSU instead of a cheaper/lower end unit like the FOCUS PLUS or TXm

Just some bapo nerd from 'Straya

I put the TX750M in the list since it was only a couple bucks more than a focus plus/G2/G1+, and didn't need any rebates.

Lmao, a 1080 Ti for that? A GTX 1060 would do the job just fine for most games at max settings 60 FPS 1080P.

Get yourself a GTX 1070 and you'll be fine with the PSU in your original link.
