Which case should I buy?

Krosis

Hi,

I am deciding between the following cases:

  • Fractal Design Meshify C
  • Phanteks P350X
  • NZXT S340 Elite
  • NZXT H500i
  • Corsair Carbide SPEC-OMEGA

I have a RX 580 with Ryzen 5 1400 - not overclocked.

What do you guys recommend? I am looking for a mix of aesthetics and functionality.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X | MOBO: MSI B450 Tomahawk GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6800XT | RAM: GSkill Trident Z DDR4 3600Mhz | PSU: ADATA Core Reactor 850W 80+ Gold | CASE: Fractal Design Meshify C MONITOR: LG 32UL500-W 4K 60Hz, Gigabyte M27Q 1440p 165Hz

Honestly? I'd go for either the Meshify C or the S340 Elite. They both look great, with the Fractal Design one being much cooler (temperature wise) because of the front panel being made completely of mesh.

Also, for the same price of the S340 Elite, you might want to consider an H500, that is basically a revision of the S340 Elite.

Ah, my bad. I wrote H440i when I meant H500i. That's the one I am considering. Is the smart controller worth it?

Abso-freakin-lutely no. Avoid it like our ancestors avoided the black plague.

NZXT CAM is one of the worst IF NOT THE worst piece of software a manufacturer could create.

Airflow = Meshify C

Overpriced: H500i, S340

Throttling GPUs = the others

The Meshify C might look kind of weird but at least your components won't suffer

ASUS X470-PRO • R7 1700 4GHz • Corsair H110i GT P/P • 2x MSI RX 480 8G • Corsair DP 2x8 @3466 • EVGA 750 G2 • Corsair 730T • Crucial MX500 250GB • WD 4TB

The P350x will not make components throttle. It actually has better airflow than the S340/H500

All the cases you listed besides the Meshify C are total crap. Another good case to look into is the Phanteks Enthoo Pro M (https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16811854042) Sale is over for the special edition, the black comes with a 10 USD rebate. The special edition also comes with 2x 140mm RGB Halo fans if that's your thing.

Previous S340 Elite / H440 owner here:

Stay away from NZXT if you care about airflow, their new H700 cases have better airflow than s340, H440, H500 etc.. but nothing impressive.

Best & worst cases for your money in 2018 are:

Best Cases overall

I) Fractal Design Meshify C - Airflow and relatively quiet, best all around case

I) Phanteks Enthoo Pro M / Special Edition (white interior) - Airflow & full water cooling support

I) Fractal Define R6 - Silent with decent airflow

I) Be Quiet! DB 900 (Full Tower) - Airflow and silent

I) Fractal Design Meshify C mini (mATX)

I) Corsair 400C - Only use with low end components, no 1080 / TI

I) Phanteks 350X - Only use with low end components, no 1080 / TI

I) Fractal Design Focus G

Cases that may be worth your money

I) Thermaltake G21 - GPU and CPU cooling issues, modest tweaking
I) Silverstone RL06 / Pro - Mustard/Ketchup wires, Shitty cable management, Poor front radiator support, useless psu filter, stupid ssd layout
I) In Win 303

I) Coolermaster H500 no suffix - if 200mm fans are your thing

I) NZXT H700 non "i" version - Needs to come down in price to be worth it

I) Corsair Carbide 100R - Suitable for low end builds

The worst cases - Do Not Buy

I) NZXT S340/Elite, H500, H440 (everything except the H700) Reason: Poor airflow
I) Coolermaster Masterbox 5

Majority of cases on the market

I like everything about the Enthoo Pro M except for the 5.25" optical drive bay. I hate how it looks and I don't use an optical drive anyway.

I think I will just go with the Meshify C.

Thanks!

I know it may sound odd but drive bays are still very much in use and the fact that customers want them shows in the Define R6. They have their place in builds. You can google a list of gadgets to put in the 5.25" bay. There are like 30+ gadgets you can use in there.

Short list include: Reservoir, fan controller, hot swap bay (two more ssds), drawer, usb hub and card reader etc.. Heck you can put another PC in a 5.25" inch drive bay lol. But yeah I digress, I wouldn't choose one over the other because of a drive bay, plan your build accordingly and see whats best for you (water cooling, radiator support, cpu fan cooler like the NH-D15 room etc..)
