I have the EVGA FTW3 Ultra version. They are $1,200 on the EVGA web site right now.

Doing what we are doing now or YouTube they use 25 watts. The same as a XC3 Ultra 3080 ti.

They are 10c cooler on the core and 20c on the vram under load than the 3080 ti version.

At 4k they produce 10 more frames over the 3080 ti version with my R9 and i9.

I have 3090s and the 3090 tis are cooler and faster but not fast enough to be an upgrade.

I am also not a fan of AIO cards.
Out of the 6 360mm AIOs I have bought in the past 3 years 2 have failed.
I don't mind spending $130 to replace an AIO but I would not like to RMA a $1,000+ GPU over one.

I have one 3090 ti on a 1000 watt PSU and it is doing fine.

A high end 3080 ti like a Strix OC, FTW3 Ultra, Suprim or the equivalent will will do about the same frames as a 3090.

GPU models are not the same so a entry level 3080 ti like my EVGA XC3 Ultra can game like a 3080 12gb and the top tier cards like my FTW3 Ultra are about 10 frames faster.

Yeah honestly now comparing the 5900X and 5950X, for the price I see no reason to go for the 5950X. I did originally do 4K gaming but, even with the 3090, it just wasn't viable, especially in unoptimized games like ARK, which I was into at the time.
The extra 4 cores would be great to have but for £150 more... it feels like a bad financial decision.
Would you suggest instead waiting for the 7000 series?

I have been looking into getting a small NAS to sit beside my PC, I have a few questions if you know the answers:
Could I access the NAS by directly connecting the ethernet to my PC? (I'd need a PCIe card for an additional ethernet port)
Even better, is there a way to run both the NAS and my PC from the same ethernet cable from the router downstairs? Maybe a small scale switch?
Will it matter from a hobbiest point of view that my drives aren't designed to go in a NAS? I recognize that there are drives like IronWolf Pro's that are specifically designed for the kind of application. I simply use Seagate Computes.
Would it be advisable to get more bays than currently required in case I need more storage in the future, or, would upgrading the existing drives be favourable?

As for OLED, it's definitely something I've considered in the past, the clarity for me doesn't justify the extra cost, I have moderately bad eyesight so small percentage gains in clarity I probably won't notice. Unless there's another reason to consider that I'm not aware of?

    Cheers!

jones177 reacted to Middcore in Tesla locked a customer's car out of 1/3 of its battery capacity for a $4.5k ransom
Well the key difference is that the car really did have "V8" capability when it was sold to the new owner.

For your analogy to work, the chain of events would have to be something like:
Owner 1 buys V6 Mustang It needs an engine replacement under warranty and Ford puts in a V8 instead by mistake(?) Owner 1 sells his Mustang to Owner 2 truthfully saying it has a V8 Owner 2 takes the car in for an oil change, Ford realizes the mistake they made before, puts a V6 back in without telling Owner 2 Of course that's completely absurd but it's the type of scenario that becomes possible in a world where features that exist in the "hardware" can be artificially locked down like this.

I wonder what conversation, if any, Tesla and the first owner had about this when they originally swapped the battery?

    I have 3090s and 3090 tis.

They are not a all the same so you have to do lots of research on them.

My 3090s are MSI Gaming X Trios. I bought them mainly because they have heat pipes on the backplate so the vram is only as hot at the 3080 ti version.
The one I have in a gaming rig listed below is a spare for one that is in a productivity rig. Now that I can overnight one it is redundant.

My 2 3090 ti are EVGA FTW3 Ultras.
They are about 10c cooler on the core and 20c on the vram than my 3090s and 3080 tis. The only GPU that I have had that come close to being as cool was my Strix 3080.

Most of my rendering crashed were from heat over time so the cooler the components the better, If the 3090 ti existed earlier I would just use them since they do run cooler.

    I agree.
Since the MSI is a mid tier card the difference between it and the premium Strix 3090 would be about 5 frames at 4k. So for that price I would go with the Strix.

The Strix 3080 ti is a nice card and at 3440 X 1440 it will last longer than it would at 4k. My only grip with it is that it does not come in white.
    The Strix 3090.
The difference in frames with the Stix 3080ti is probably close to zero but I like having the vram.
If Normal is selected in the power management mode in the Nvidia control panel the fans do not come on until the GPU hits about 56 to 60c. If Prefer Maximum Performance is selected they will spin all the time. To see the difference you have to reboot the computer.
It is the way with all my 30 series cards.

If the GPU are in a hot case the fans will spin.

With my 3090 ti that I am using now, the fans only come on while gaming and I can't hear them over the case fans.
This is the setup I use to keep it cool.

jones177 reacted to SteveGrabowski0 in 2070 super usage in gta 5
GTA V is pretty cpu bound especially if you have settings like draw distances turned way up. It also cares way more about single core performance than how many cores and threads you have, being a game from 2013 ported to PC in 2015 and R5 2600 isn't great in single core performance. It has virtually the same Passmark CPU single thread score as the i5-4690 from 2014. GTA V basically hits the weak spot of your 2600 without making very good use of its strong point, namely the core and thread count. You gotta remember GTA V is essentially an XBox 360 game and those games weren't written to parallelize well across a lot of cores.

So to me it is about what GPU your CPU is feeding.
If it is a 3070 or less stay with what you have. If it is a 3080 or better you would benefit from an upgrade.

The VelociRaptors had burst read speeds almost as fast as a SATA SSD and could do writes faster.

I used them because they got rid of stutter in open world modded games. These games were unplayable with a 7,200rpm drive.

The run time before they wrote errors is about 2 years. None died hard and I can still get data from them.
