Any reasons to upgrade from 3600 to 5600 for gaming?

I currently have the R5 3600. And somehow there's a company here that has a nice deal, the R5 5600 for $140...

Can it increase game FPS like PUBG? Or it's more GPU dependent?

Also, the 5600 is almost identical to the 5600X in performance right? Like there's no reason to get 5600X at all now that the 5600 exists

I'm just trying to get excuses to buy it..  I don't need it, I don't need it...

Are you happy with the performance you get out of your 3600?

You want it, that's enough of a reason for me.

It should help in more CPU dependent games. PUBG last I remember did scale a bit with CPUs (haven't really played in almost a year though, so don't quote me on that), so you might get a bit of an FPS increase with it. Besides, it's $140 for the upgrade, and 3600s sell for ~$100 last I checked, so it's only really a $40 upgrade for ~15-20% more CPU performance.

You don't need to get it, a 3600 is a fine CPU to use, it's just that if you just want to play around with something new, a $40 upgrade for that performance uplift in CPU bound stuff is pretty hard to turn down. I've spent more for less.

thank you! and also if I can't sell it, I was just thinking about using the empty B450 I have and have another PC. I already have another PC with some old intel (again, it does the job for its purpose.. but another awesome PC for $140? why not)

In that case, and if you won't miss the money, go for it.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

I also think you don't need it. What's your RAM stick frequency? PUBG is obviously a non-CPU dependent game, it's more dependent on RAM frequency and gpu.

If you sell the 3600 you probably end up paying like $20, which is worth it to me. Don't forget to update the BIOS before installing the new CPU.

The performance difference depends on what GPU you have.

That is kinda false. Any game that benefits from RAM speed benefits from faster CPUs more. The Ryzen 5000 series chips have a lot more efficient cache setup than their Ryzen 3000 series counterparts, so instead of having to go to RAM for data, more than likely they just need to go to cache. I'm not saying it doesn't help at all, it's just that you'll get a much bigger performance uplift in games by going for a 5600 with a generic 3200MHz CL16 kit or slower instead of sticking with a 3600 and going for a kit dual rank Samsung B die

then no, not worth it to upgrade, you're just wasting money at that point.

It is a worthy upgrade, between the ipc increase and the increase in clock speed, it will mop the floor with your 3600. It’s just a way better cpu overall.

When my 5800x and i9 9900k both used RTX 2080 tis they produced about the same amount of frames. When they got 3080 tis the 5800x pulled away at 1080p and 1440p.

So to me it is about what GPU your CPU is feeding.

If it is a 3070 or less stay with what you have. If it is a 3080 or better you would benefit from an upgrade.

I went from a 3600XT to a 5600X.. it was a solid bump. Not just noticeable in games, but daily life as well. It’s just a far better cpu.
