gonna leave this here so that the crysis fkin AMD circlejerk stops.
And btw, we all know that AMD only got proper tessellation going on their recent gpu's

This point has been disproven already. When in-game, the renderer culls objects out of sight. When in wireframe mode, that object culling is disabled. Crytek even pointed this out themselves.

Yes you can. The limitations are: you can't freely oc ram and you can't mess with BCLK (always 100), but you can increase clock ratios per core and mess with voltages

Why would you say that people aren't into these videos? These videos are actually good and the format that you are using (parts over time) makes us get hooked to see the rest.

Apart from that, i would say that Asus and ASRock are the winners here. I simple dont like (and dont see why so many people are hyped about) Gigabyte. It looks like one of those 50 bucks boards. Yea, we don't really need emi shields and fancy heatsinks but cmon, they should at least make it look better. The MSI is good but i'm not so confortable with them for some reason.

I kinda agree with most of Luke's oppinions but i'm kinda disapointed with alot of stuff that was skipped, specially on the ASRock UEFI. First, as personal preference,  it reminds me alot of old BIOS, wich makes it alot easier for me to navigate around. Second, there are a few features that are really good, like UEFI internet flash (updating the uefi directly from the internet, when inside the uefi), internet driver download, fullhd uefi, Online management guard (usefull in an office/workplace without needing to intall software) and also has a system browser like the MSI board.

I get the feeling that alot of people think that ASRock boards come with really basic UEFI, wich isn't true, at all.

dude, i understand what you mean here. What you also have to understand is, that some people, including myself, just dont feel right using a computer that has something not working. I have a 280x on mydaily pc, and i have 0 problems. But on my laptop, i have terrible video acel and alot of other bugs on AMD drivers. The video acel only works with 13.8 drivers or so. If i use something newer, i get no video acel at all. I can't even watch a stream on medium without ramping up the cpu usage... That  was reported so long ago on amd forums and still not fixed.
Got a friend with laptop aswell, with an AMD gpu, and his screen goes black  with any driver after 13.4.

These are just 2 examples from the top of my head, but i could give you more. This is basicly the same as selling a card with advertised features and then you can't use them (the feeling is the same as if you had bought a 970).
Bad drivers are a big deal breaker for alot of people. They don't feel their pc is stable or fully functional.

Wile i agree that some compensation would be the best thing here, what i don't understand is why alot (most) people are complaining about performance issues. Tbh, the game that uses that much ram is rare. No, i'm not saying that nvidia deserves to be excused, i really don't, but people still have a beast of a performer for a good price. You will recall and then what? get a 290x instead (assuming u don't wanna pay more for a 980)?
In real life apps/games, the 970 is still worth.

I don't know if you are just dumb, in denial or just missinformed. But i kinda like the "drivers have no problems for me, so they are fine" mentality.
First off, there are alot of people with issues  with AMD drivers for more then a year, on destop, on modern GPUs. Here are a few examples: features like types of AA not working after you turn on other features like AO;  GPU clocks locking on UVD/desktop clocks when you go on a fullscreen 3d application; some types of video not being acelerated, Bad scaling on few monitors, horrible scaling on cf (just read guru3d forum and you will see).
These aren't minor things. They would be minor if they got fixed 1-2 months after with a new driver. Some of these persist for more than a year.

Secondly, i didn't talk about "texture" quality, so stop reading only what you want to read. I specificly mentioned stuff like AO and said that stuff like this, enchanced godrays, physx in few cases and other stuff, makes the games more eye candy. That, for me, matters. I couldn't care less if that doesn't matter for you. Also, i got all this from personal experience. I don't go around reading random retarded google stuff to be posting here. I kinda even tried few stuff trading gpu's (780 isnt mine) and yes, i do prefer the nvidia side of things.

In the end, what i meant was: if i have 2k USD at this precise moment, and want to build a system, i would build an nvidia one. I would get a more pleasing experience with than if i bough and AMD one. I would have physx if i wanted to, gsync (wich is godlike) if i wanted to, and few other good stuff. I would get more stable drivers, more intuitive software (nvidia experience >raptr imo), etc, etc..

And no, i'm not saying that AMD is bad, but they need to kick it up a notch, specially on the software side of things.

Ok so. Im gonna rant out a bit.

I was reading alot about how bad AC unity was for PC. Before i had it, i was checking a few streamers on twitch play it, and started to think that people were circlejerking the shit out of it.

    Installed the game.
My specs: 4670k (4.4), 8gb ram, 280x. I can run most games at 1080p almost maxed out, or close to it; at least with a very pleasing iq.

So i started playing. The screen tearing (with vsync off) is off the charts. It get's unplayable!!!
Tried max settings: 30-40 fps. Medium settings: 30-40 fps. I was "wtf???".

Then i installed afterburner and put gpu/cpu usages, aswell as ram, on OSD. It uses my cpu (the 4 cores) only at 20-30%.

At the end of the day, i got an ok system that allowed me to even play Bioshock Inf and crysis 3 maxed out (or close to it), and this ass game can't even use my system. I'm very disapointed, we are on fcking 2014 and still have stuff like this happening

People who fcking say that about ASRock need to start paying attention to reviewers all over the internet and need to start using their own brain.

As a pc builder myself, i hold the extreme series of ASRock as high tier mobos. Also, ASRock has the best quality cheap mobos you can find. Everyone started laughing at ASRock b85 and h87 "gaming" motherboard but look what hapenned.... Asus and MSI did it months later too.

As far as motherboard goes, ASRock and Asus have been the ones to set the pace on alot of stuff. Also, They are basicly the ones trying new stuff on their motherboards, since forever.
Examples: asrock implemented new msatas, asrock built (old days) AGP + PCi-e lanes so you could have your old gpu one new mobo (when pci-e started as norm). ASRock started the low budget (b85/h87) overclocking gaming mobos, with other brands followed like 6 months later. Asus developed their own sound system and alot other inovative stuff that other brands kinda followed.

All in all, the extreme 6 in one of the really good motherboards ASRock has to offer right now. The brand is good and the motherboards are really solid.

edit: extreme 6 is 12 power phase design, not 6+1 O_o

It's a retarded app imo, and this is why:

-First off, the user interface is dumb. I don't know who designs those instead of going for a clean looking and functional one. Full screen layout feels sluggish. I also don't like the app maximized,
-Game optimizations are mostly wrong. It kinda "forces" you to a specific preset and if you change something manually, even in the app itself, it keeps saying that the game isn't optimized.
-DVR is a plus. and aparently works decently. I would like to see it as part of the AMD drivers and not part of an app.
-Twitch streaming is beta for ages: typical AMD, the queen of unfinished software. Tbh, it's kinda useless since alot of game are starting to come out with a streaming option inbuilt. Also, a regular streamer would use OBS or xplit and probably use Intel quicksync or adm integrated gpu for that.
-The point system is a plus: you can get free stuff out of it, but thats the only good thing there

I love AMD's aproach to drivers:
Since all of them have a major issue, they release mostly beta drivers so that they can have the excuse for an error. Launching 2 whql driver set's a year ftw! And yes, im an AMD owner and have been for years, but their drivers are mostly pure bullshit that only bring some optimization for a new game and rarely fix any major issue.

Just think: If your GPU isn't bottlenecking your cpu at all, the more your cpu can process, the better for the game. It's, as mentioned, free performance. Ofc that with the cpu that you have some games won't even put your cpu at 100% but complex ones will. But yeah, most of the difference will come from CPU intensive tasks as video transcoding and stuff such as that.

Again, you having that beast CPU and that awesome cooler, you should overclock, otherwise it would be kinda a waste of hardware (u could have bought low end i5 with stock cooler).
