Alright, that memory looks good to me, thanks for that one. I was thinking of adding in an SSD just for the convenience but the budget is super tight and I'd rather not go too far above the ceiling since he's only in high school and doesn't have much money at all.  We'll see in the end, thank you for the suggestion once again!

    Swap the memory to:

I would try to add an SSD but that can always be done later if you don't mind doing a reinstall of Windows

Lovely build! I was about to say, a white NZXT H200 would've fit that Gigabyte graphics card nicely, but I love the switch to the EVGA card just as much.
Your cable management is so neat, excellent job!

On paper, no. It's a minimal clock speed upgrade. You'd feel the most benefit if you went for a Sandy Bridge i7 such as the i7-2600 or the i7-2700, or even go to an unlocked i5-2500K.

jiyeon reacted to Z3R0 CHANC3 in NZXT H200 Build
This is the first PC I've built since around 2008 (or earlier).  At that time cable routing consisted of plugging in cables and making sure they didn't protrude into the fans, I didn't care about form, only function.  It finally got so unusable that I scrapped it.

    Parts:
    NZXT H200
    Intel Core i5-8600k
    Asus ROG Strix Z370-1
    Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB 3200 RGB
    Samsung 970 Pro 512GB nVME M.2
Cooler Master Masterliquid ML120R Ultra Master ARGB Master Super Master AIO (needed more Masters in the name so I added them)
Seasonic Focus Plus Platinum 650W (more than I needed but it was cheaper AND had a rebate over the 550W)
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Turbo 11G Blower style card
Silverstone Technology 12 LED ARGB Strips x4

    After all this I realized:
The RAM was RGB, not ARGB.  I returned it and got Gskill ARGB memory.
The Gigabyte 1080 Ti didn't look good in my mostly black build, so I got the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti iCX 11G-P4-6591-KR.  Hopefully I don't take too much of a loss on the Gigabyte card.

As you can see the original AIO pump mounting had the tube inlet/outlets on top, but I had to rotate it because something was preventing it from seating flush with the CPU.  I blocked off the top fan mount stacking the filter, gorilla tape panel, then an old fan frame that I trimmed to a low profile.  I blocked off most holes on the bottom, as well as the air filter past the length of the PSU, which seemed to be almost as small as an ITX PSU.  Radiator is on the front with the 2nd ARGB fan on the bottom of the front.  I wanted all the air to come in the front and out the back, with a positive case pressure.  I DO have the PSU with the intake on the bottom only because NZXT said not to mount it upside down.  I can see why they recommend that, but with my air flow it really would've been fine upside down, but I decided I didn't want it reducing the internal pressure.

    On with the pics!

Here's a list for you to consider; Ryzen 7 2700X on an X470 motherboard, 16GB of RAM (with RGB), and a GTX 1080 Ti, all for under £2000.
If you needed a monitor and peripherals, reducing the amount of storage, changing to cheaper non-RGB RAM, and going for perhaps a Ryzen 5 2600 and an Arctic Freezer 33 eSports One is a nice alternative.

jiyeon reacted to mvitkun in What does VRM (Phases) affect and how many phases do we need?
with phases there are two things that matter
    -quality
    -quantity

you could have 100 phase power delivery, but if they are shotty (insert other vowel if you need to) you might not be able to overclock very well anyway.

but if you have a quality single phase power deilvery you may still be unable to achieve good overclocks anyway due to limited power delivery.

8 phase and above is good for overclocking, provided that it's good quality vrms and that they have decent cooling on the motherboard.

when you get past say 16 phase I'd begin to question if the VRM's are actually good quality or if they are slapping as many as they can onto the motherboard (yes there are ones that have a large quantity and great quality)

Voltage Regulator Modules transfer the power while also converting the 12V (or whatever) to what the cpu/gpu needs (around 1v).
the more high quality phases you have the more you can raise the voltage without needing to worry about instability on the motherboards side.

so if you want 4.8ghz+ (3770K) or 5ghz+ (8350) it will help immensely to have a good amount of quality VRM's.

I'm familiar with it in terms of things like company benefits or a union. In the case of a union it's a grace period where you don't get the benefits until the other employees or the company know you're going to stick around and not just quit within your first week or month.

Following up oin this, it's also benefitial for the employer, because they can evaluate all the claims you made on your application. For e.g. if you said you are an advanced user of Excel, but turns out you can't even SUM two things, they can easily fire you.

The way the sticker is designed is the design itself on a white background, so of course the white lettering in 'Linus Tech Tips' would be literally invisible.

The Australian e-commerce store RedBubble which is similar to Design By Humans has the same sticker background concept.

Is this the official LTT DBH store or was this an independent seller selling the LTT logo? Either way, shoddy effort with an overlooked design.

jiyeon reacted to Fasauceome in Is the Intel i7-8700 good cpu for gaming and streaming?
Yeah an i7 will be better for streaming. Actually just about any i7 will be better for streaming, but the 8700 will be great. Judging by the copy/paste in the title, you're probably not too sure about PC building stuff, so just know that the CPU will not work with your motherboard or ram.

Prioritise a rear exhaust fan first since generally case fair flow is from front to back.

For top case fans, those are worth it when you laready have established front and rear fans. I have a single 120mm case fan set to exhaust hot air from the inside of the case, since hot air rises and I want to optimise it as much as I can.

You just need to search around for specific features that one H310 motherboard may have over another, such as better power phases, more fan headers, more SATA ports, and even the design.
Being the H310 chipset, you'll find minimal differences, but best bet is to compare different ones you're interested in and see which one suits your needs the most.
