£300 Budget Gaming PC for Brother - Final Part

jiyeon

Alright, so I've gotten to the point where the funds are now in my hands, and I can now order parts. As a final check, I wanted to see what people think of this as a £300 gaming PC for my brother, who plays games such as League of Legends, Rocket League, and Fortnite.

I believe what I have made here is the best I can get for the money, apart from the case which can be changed because I don't know a lot about mATX cases.

Anything I should change before I jump the gun and order the parts?

Swap the memory to:

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/p4cMnQ/patriot-viper-4-8gb-2-x-4gb-ddr4-3000-memory-pv48g300c6k

I would try to add an SSD but that can always be done later if you don't mind doing a reinstall of Windows :)

Alright, that memory looks good to me, thanks for that one. I was thinking of adding in an SSD just for the convenience but the budget is super tight and I'd rather not go too far above the ceiling since he's only in high school and doesn't have much money at all. :S We'll see in the end, thank you for the suggestion once again!

Yah, I misread it as 350 at first so I was thinking the headroom was there but then I realized it was $300 so yah, I totally understand needing to try and keep it as cheap as you can.

Well, you could tell him that the SSD will help him out and if he does not want to you could make room for the future upgrade

B350 + Ryzen 2? I've never done BIOS updates before so would it not be better to pick up a B450 for the sake of time and convenience?

Also, I should note he has very little desk space so the case would need to be compact and not a mid tower.

I will take that PSU into account, thanks. :)

I've told him how good SSDs are before and he's still confident that he wants to save as much money as he can, besides, he's never used an SSD-based PC before so he wouldn't be missing out on load times. ;)

Unless you get really unlucky and get a 9 month old board from storage the BIOS will be fine.

Cases shouldnt be too different in size.

Here is a decent B 450 series board to pick up instead.

No heatsinks on the SoC VRM is super sketchy. Gamersnexus has testing.

The Pure Power 10 400W (semi modular or non modular) would be a better choice. Multi rail, rifle bearing fan and it's quiet.

I'm not sure I want to take that B350 risk. :( I've only ever seen mid towers so I wouldn't have known that, thank you.

Okay, thanks for the suggestion, think I'll opt for the non-modular, 400W shouldn't have too much extra cables, I imagine.

Yes opt for the pure power 10. Significantly better PSU if you can afford it

This build has 16% less CPU performance than R3 2200G, and 49% more GPU performance than Integrated Vega 8 Graphics.

You can also build a way more powerful pc, but it has to be used hardware.

I'm against this idea because what's the point in buying a GT 1030 now when I know he's getting a GTX 1050 Ti in the future?

It's probably not going to a definite GTX 1050 Ti but the logic there, spending on a GT 1030 only to have it dumped for an upgraded card is a waste.

That's a very arbitrary number, and it has no basis in reality. Also, these numbers are at stock, not overclocked, as anyone with a 2200G should do.

I see now that a Vega 8 graphics combined with fast ram will have same performance as GT 1030.
