You can but it’s not trivial and honestly I wouldn’t bother just grab yourself some cheap android TV sticks and use that. Super simple.

run plex server on the mac and plex for android on the TVs and you’ll have a great experience.

Forget all this ‘bottlenecking’ talk people repeat from YouTube videos.

Buy whatever card fits your budget and use case.

Maybe a high end card like a 1080ti won’t be able make 100% use out of it you’ll still get a great experience.

then when you later come to upgrade your CPU, you don’t need to replace the GPu you just carry on using the one you’ve got.

i personally ran a 3770 with a 970 and it was a great experience. Pubg’s uniptimised nonsense made me upgrade to a 1080ti and it performed great.

later I went to an 8700k and yes it was a better experience than the 3770 but by no means was the 3770 ever bad.

8gb to 12 or 16 is a worthwhile upgrade, means you don’t have to close everything down for a good gaming experience you can just use your PC as normal without worrying about RAM usage.  i’d keep an eye out for local second hand bargains as DDR3 can be had for cheap that way.

Jay Deah reacted to Sorenson in I5 6400 vs I7 6700
I would start out with grabbing an extra 8gb of ram so you can run dual channel, and getting an ssd for your operating system. I wouldn't spend $240~ to get a used i7 unless your computer really can't edit your 1080p footage.

Jay Deah reacted to leadeater in Question regarding IP Transit
Based on the information you gave I'm leaning towards not renting rack space. It's a nice option but I would do that only if the provider you are looking at has leased networking options and handles that for you and just assigns you an IP range/subnet to use. I'm not exactly sure what network services they are offering but it sounds to me like layer 1/2 only and you need to control everything above that which means your on IP space and IP transit and/or peering. I only base this off that fact you are being told you need to pay for IP transit.

Pretty much you want a similar network setup to what you have now with OVH where they do it all for you otherwise you'll have to start getting in to more specialist networking areas of skill sets.

I don't have too much experience using co-location services as we run our own facilities so hopefully when @Lurick comes on line he can help out better.

I would point out that using different IP addresses like you describe would mostly only help out if you have a DDoS mitigation service that will change the routing to move the traffic to go through their filtering platform then send it on to you. Without that any and all traffic destined to the same point, regardless of IP, will saturate either the link bandwidth or the network processing capability of the equipment and you'll have service interruption.

Personally I would look at the application layer design and higher level infrastructure and see if there are any improvements you can make there, and also enable the usage of any provider or platform so what you run it on doesn't matter. See if there are cost savings by using an exist CDN for example or not hosting your own mail services. Realistically I can't help much here because all the required information to actually do that is your company knowledge but I think you get the gist of what I'm saying.

Running your own hardware can seem cheaper but there are many costs that you might not know about or extra time and resourcing requirements.

When it no longer meets your performance standards, plain and simple. If it does everything you need, spending money on an improvement is pointless.

Mods need to close this thread. This guy is complaining that Intel is only refunding his purchase for his dead CPU. What else do you want? A back rub from Bob Swan? Intel is being as generous as you would expect. Get your refund and switch to AMD if you must.

If you'll use Adobe Suite extensively then the i9 9900K is the best CPU currently, but specifying is always a good idea.

Please remember that there are users other than gamers who buy laptops. These cards are not GTX branded ‘gaming’ cards so why you would even think they’re aimed at gamers?

For example my work laptop (Lenovo t480) has an MX150 GPu. It’s not a gaming laptop.

The key thing people forget about this area is requirements around availability. What is your required availability, how much downtime can you afford to have etc.

if your server breaks and it takes you a week to fix it, have you gonna bankrupt already?

servers are about a lot more than raw spec/horsepower. It’s more about availability and redundancy

oh and yes for a small business absolutely think about cloud!

you dont NEED to throw the whole PC away. if 60fps 1080p is your target in those games.

You'll want a GPU upgrade, any that's NOT money wasted as you'd spend that regardless so look at the best budget GPU that meets your requirements

as for the rest of the system, if the info above is correct and your board will accept a 3rd gen i7 then you have some potential budget upgrade options there...

if it was me i'd go for a new GPU, and then try it, IF its still not good enough and youre struggling with the rest of the system THEN consider upgrading the processor and memory.

i don't think its a great idea to buy anything new/extra for these systems like a Z77 board etc. if you want something better i'd sell what you have (its worth quite a bit still) and use that money to invest in a newer platform

if you wanna just use it then either system would be absolutely fine

Jay Deah reacted to WereCatf in Plz advice how to divide internet speed connected to same router with 2 lan cables.
You could always get a new router that can do it, or you could make your own router, install pfSense on it, learn how to use it and then set up traffic-shaping.

But no, there is no simple way of doing it and certainly no splitters or such.

You need a wireless controller of some kind (virtual or physical) unless you can get autonomous firmware for them
1140, 1142 and 2600 are all pretty terrible. They might have gigabit interfaces, but they're still only 802.11N.
802.11N and the fact that they are end of life, means they're literally worthless for most companies.
802.11n and controller / the hassle of autonomous firmware means they're worthless for 99,9% of private people. They are only really good for labbing.

So those prices seem about right.
