Fps drops in pubg with the 2950x and the 2080ti

So I recently built a new computer. My cpu is the 2950x threadripper and my gpu is the asus rtx 2080ti strix oc. I also have 4x8 gb trident z 3000mhz cL 15. The pc works (and games) great for the most part. In some games like pubg though when playing in 2560x1440p everything maxed out, render scale at 100 when I’m on the top of a mountain or a hill looking at a city or a town like pekado my fps drop from 135-145 to 85-95. In areas with grass rocks, roads and inside houses I get 140-160 fps. But when running towards a town I get 95-110 fps. I also get weird frame drops (only in certain locations- like firing range)  when playing call of duty black ops 4 black out (from 145 to 95 fps) but I’ve seen it happen to other people so I think it okay.when playing multiplayer I get 135-190 fps (150 average) which is great. Other games run smoothly too. Do you think that those frame drops are normal??? Does anyone else have these issues with those games especially pubg??? Could it be my cpu, ram or gpu??? My ram runs at 3000mhz (xmp) and also quad channel is enabled. I checked it using cpu-z

Hard to say. It could be the game's poor optimization or Windows Scheduler which says which core/thread has to do what. But I would bet on a game. ?‍♂️

I don't know how versed you are on computers....

But games don't use all cores and threads available..

For many a years past we have had a 2-4thread usually used, until recently when more and more games became 6+ Thread aware,..

It's likely the games in question are Multi-threaded in nature,.. but Multi-threading in general (Gaming) has a ways to go....

On top of that,... Windows never expected Threadripper so soon.(has its own issues with that, worth a google)

I bought it mainly for gaiming and because I could get 16 cores for 800 euros or 8 cores 9900k for 600 euros at the time. So I got double the cores with only 200 euros more. I know that the 2950x is not a gaming chip but according to 95% of the reviews out there the difference is 1440p between the 2950x and the 9900k in the majority of games is 5-15 fps. That’s a pretty small difference. In games like forza horizon my pc outperforms a pc with the 9900k 2080ti in 1440p ultra when doing the benchmark. So obviously the 2950x May not be the absolute best when it comes to gaming but it’s not far behind. and it should be able to offer you a high end gaming experience ( according to the reviews like hardwareunboxed’s review for example) . And in pubg the system can hit 140-170 fps. If the cpu wasn’t capable enough I think it would hit that high fps. The problem is that when running towards a city frames drop to 95-105. So if anyone has a 2080ti pls try running the game in 1440p everything maxed out and tell me if that happens to you too. Thank you all in advance and sorry for the large reply :)

On Intel, the cores are stronger, but on AMD it's overall stronger. That means, when you have a thing such as a game, that uses maybe 6 cores, the Intel one will actually be faster than AMD, even though it's less powerful overall.

 

Realistically PUBG maybe uses 2 cores...
