Super Cheap Cisco AP's

newcbomb

I need to replace a netgear r8000 that I had with an access point. I looked at ebay and found a lot of Cisco AP's, mostly the  LAP1142N-A-K9 Aironet 1140 and  Cisco AIR-CAP2602I-A-K9 Aironet 2600. They are all around $10-$20 USD. They are gigabit and dual band. Am I missing something or are these a great deal?

Specs:

 Gaming PC: i5 3570, 16GB 1600MHz, GTX 780 3GB, Transcend 128GB, WD 500GB, Seagate 500GB, Thermaltake 600W Smart, S340 w/ RGB, Windows 10 Pro

 Server: Xeon E5 2650, 12GB 1600MHz ECC, 8400GS, WD 2TB + 1TB + 1TB, EVGA 500B 500W, Windows 10 Pro

 Laptop: Macbook Pro Retina 2013, i7 4558U, 8GB 1600MHz, Intel Iris Pro 1.5GB, Apple 256GB NVME, Mojave

 Internet: $70/month For 500/100, Actually get 525/102

i would be wary of those..

those are normally like $150, so for them to be that cheap, something must be off..

on another note, why replace the r8000 and what do you plan to do with it(ive been looking at getting one)

You need a wireless controller of some kind (virtual or physical) unless you can get autonomous firmware for them

1140, 1142 and 2600 are all pretty terrible. They might have gigabit interfaces, but they're still only 802.11N.

802.11N and the fact that they are end of life, means they're literally worthless for most companies.

802.11n and controller / the hassle of autonomous firmware means they're worthless for 99,9% of private people. They are only really good for labbing.

So those prices seem about right.

So do you have an actual question?

If not this is more Status Update material.

This could be interpreted in more than one way.
