thewhitestig reacted to Glenwing in looking for 4K monitor help please
4K is a category which encompasses many resolutions. There are some people who insist that 4096x2160 is "true 4K" and that no other resolutions are allowed to be called 4K, mostly because it's something they heard someone else tell them. It's complete nonsense, please don't listen to it.

The most common 4K resolution is 3840x2160, that's the one you'll see most of the time.

I need to check them in Windows, but it only works with the charger plugged, and I don't know where the charger is. I believe the RAM was 4MB and the HDD is either 1GB or less. Not sure about the CPU though. There should be specs on the internet for that particular model.

This is a Dell Latitude xpi p100sd. I have no idea what year it's from. Probably the mid 90s.

Its really not a rebrand. If it was a rebrand it would be doing worse then my 290x Lighting which it isn't.

You can't really have both elimination of the black economy and a smaller public sector as actual enforcement of taxation law will require a strong public sector and instantly reforming the public sector leads to problems like I linked above(people not having healthcare or the money to afford food) leading to a higher strain on the economy which will then again require more money going to social security mechanisms.

Greeks have shown a willingness to reform, what they don't want is a dramatic increase of VAT which increases the cost of living and is something that affects the poor relatively harder than the wealthy, they want their pension system to not be entirely dismantled as reforms have already started back in 2010 and most of all they want to be treated as humans and not simple statistics.

Corruption is a real problem in Greece, no one denies it. The Greeks don't, Europe doesn't, no one. However the demands made in negotiations do not affect corruption, increased taxation efficiency is not demanded and no resources are made available to enable it. Once all these measures have been agreed upon and implemented we can start looking at real austerity again to deal with what remains.

Private investment as well as non-EU state investments are quite significant portions of the Southern European debts. Added to that is the fact that many of the more stable economies themselves borrowed money to then provide it to the Southern European countries meaning they themselves now owe it to creditors. The problem I indicated isn't just the existing credit either but rather the problems to obtain new credit at favourable interest rates.

Romania still consistently does not have an inflation rate or interest rate compatible with the convergence criteria and has yet to join ERM II which it needs to be a member of at least 2 years before it can adopt the euro. It seems unlikely Romania will make 2019.

Romania being able to cope with its economic issues better than Greece is easily explained by the fact you have your own monetary policy. As you can yourself affect the money supply and are unable to lend large amounts of money there is an artificial cap on just how much you can spend and if you can get in trouble you can alter the money supply to become more competitive.

The two countries cannot be compared.

And that is just a small part of the austerity measures and only two of an almost infinite amount of stories regarding the effects of austerity on the country. Truly just peanuts.

I think you don't quite appreciate the message a Grexit sends to lenders and other parties across the world, it undermines the European negotiating position for one but beyond that it establishes that the Eurozone won't guarantee the debts of its members. Once that happens countries like Italy, Spain, Portugal and others suddenly become less attractive to invest in and then those countries will get in trouble. That's not even counting the amount of money European Banks are going to have to write off if Greece defaults.

Samsung should buy them, invest in R&D and AMD starts kicking ass again. Problem solved. AMD just did a huge layoff 6 months ago. How can you expect them to be competitive when they're so poor? I do agree with you that blind Nvidia fanboyism certainly played a role in AMD's horrible financial situation. But that started like 3-4 years ago. Since then they started making one wrong decision after another, which in the following years gave people more and more reasons not to buy AMD. If AMD had stayed on top of their game after their excellent 5 and 6000 series then they wouldn't have had this problem now. They should've told their shareholders to fk off and run the company like Amazon does, every single penny you make you invest back in.

Honestly, It could be a plethora of things But as of now I'm just super curious to see if you feel the same with another GPU (280X). Let me know if your friend experiences anything along the lines of what you did! Also, is he also using VGA?

The bet way to really see wtf is going on is to control as many variables as you can. Less variables, less variances of what the problem could be. So have him use not only the Same connection, but the same exact cord, software, etc. Again, as much as possible, of course.. I'm sure he can't recreate your exact scenario.. But anything will help.

But yeah, let me know what happens! Quite curious...

Some of the 3rd party 980's are a lot more than $550. Some of them start between $650-750.

You're right, there is a price gap and that, along with the performance gap, plays into the possibility that Nvidia could bring out another GPU to fill that gap. Whether they call it the 980Ti or not is another matter.

x90 cards in the past (from Nvidia) have almost always been dual-GPU cards, especially among the more recent generations, so in that regard, I doubt they'd call it the 990 - but you never know.

In this context, unlocked means having hardware resources on the chip enabled. So a GTX 980 has a fully unlocked GM204 GPU, while a GTX 970 has a cut-down GM204.

It's really sad that basic economics need to be constantly explained to what should otherwise be an intelligent community. Fanboyism is blinding these people so much, that they aren't any different than the silly people arguing over Sony vs MS vs Nintendo. I'm noticing a very rapid and continuous decline of the intelligence of the PC community (on average that is). Maybe that's because the PC as a gaming platform has been booming in recent years, and more and more halfwits got involved in it. But that's also due to the fact that this forum in particular has been overrun by 14 year olds who are actively trying to make this place worse than the YouTube comment section.
