Its really not a rebrand. If it was a rebrand it would be doing worse then my 290x Lighting which it isn't.

290 is still the way to go until they can't be found anymore if you're looking for great mid range bang for buck 1080p or 1440p gaming.  You just couldn't beat it for $250 USD.

Ok, right... it's a refresh. Big deal. It's still the same dang GPU. The worse off is the older chips which have not been around for YEARS..... Hawaii is not the huge letdown.

So maybe the 390 performs closer to the 290X now though.... but we are talking about 5-7 fps here.

i agree with jay , its not a re-brand, its a refresh and seems to be a good one too

the 390 is killing the 290x and 970 , and we have yet to see the numbers the 390x will throw down. so far its looking good for amd.

Please quote me or tag me if your trying to talk to me , I might see it through all my other notifications ^_^

Why is this a news post? It isn't even that controversial and will just lead to another AMD v Nvidia debate in the news section...

Not to mention there are already 2/3 other threads on the 970 v 390 that are about this video

He says in the video that it's a refresh, not a rebrand that's all, and we know the performance is equal to the 970 pretty much

Still it is a good video though

Because it is his money to do as he pleases. He knows of the limitations of the FX series, he uses one. He also gets asked that question in many threads. Some people just do things as they see fit, with or without reason. The answer he will give you will probably be less satisfying than mine.

@OT: This is not surprising to me. The 970 was not that far ahead of the higher tiered 200 series, and with this being a more efficient offer at a much more satisfying price point, the 970 is now put in an awkward position. Nvidia will most likely drop the price to a raw $300 US, and hope that brand loyalty and their software features will be enough to sway people into purchasing the 970.

The 970 has a few things going for it that will always continue to persuade consumers even if a 390 has better value. Power, Features, and Game support. Us techies may say, "Nvidia's gameworks is anti-competitive and an asshole move, therefore I'm buying AMD" but the viewpoint of mainstream consumers, it just looks like Nvidia is better because they don't have to deal with gameworks issues cutting their framerate in half.

I am conducting some polls regarding your opinion of large technology companies. I would appreciate your response.

Microsoft Apple Valve Google Facebook Oculus HTC AMD Intel Nvidia

I'm using this data to judge this site's biases so people can post in a more objective way.

Yeah i'm not sure if I was in that position which way I would go, under 4gb of high speed memory in 2015 bothers me especially if we are talking a dual gpu setup in the future. I'm on team green, so no bias here :P

At 1080p.  4K is entirely GPU bound, and it largely doesn't matter what CPU you have as long as it has 4 or more threads.

Its really not a rebrand. If it was a rebrand it would be doing worse then my 290x Lighting which it isn't

*facedesk*, better vRAM chips, tweaked bios, the ability to use better drivers as a result of the bios tweaks, identical PCB layout (better components used on the reference 390X) and GPU that is identical.

Thats why I said it "Would be doing worse than" not "Is doing worse" :P and nice double post
