Just checking into this since I got a PM that was concerned we were trying to conceal the Dbrand product placement and that was worried about us running afoul of sponsorship disclosure laws. Here's what I had to say about Switch Girl in response:

Clearly we were wrong in the sense that people didn't think it was funny.

Not sure if this is the right section to post this as I have just signed up but watching the newest video (The ALL-EBAY PC) has reminded me.

I love Scrapyard Wars, I think it's the best series and videos on the channel. Binged all of them like a month ago and absolutely loved it. Can we get more?

    Thanks.

I'd get a 980 Ti instead - that'll perform like or better than the Titan X Maxwell and probably cheaper

Not entirely familiar with UK pricing, but they seem a tad expensive to me.

A 980ti will easily OC past a Titan X though unless it's under water. Then you will have a beast card

Mat_95 reacted to Kalm_Traveler in Is there a point in getting the Cosmos C700P over my current HAF X?
The HAF X has built-in support for a 240 or 360mm radiator in the top. I ran my build in it for 2 years with a 360mm Thermaltake AIO up there - however you can't use the top 5.25" drive bay with a 360mm rad because it takes up some of that space. Also, there are not screw holes that far forward so you can only put support screws in I believe 10 of the 12 holes in the radiator. I asked both CoolerMaster and Thermaltake if this would be a problem and they both said that since the AIO is so lightweight and most of it is secured it won't cause a problem.

Anyway, if you are happy with your current build I would just stick with the HAF X. Whenever you are ready to build a new rig, at that point you can look for a newer case.

You might be thinking of the H500p Mesh..... This is the update to the COSMOS II OP is considering

The HAF was based solely around airflow, the C700p is outclassed; it's hard to beat it in the sheer airflow performance category (though there are a few cases that do) and the only real reason to upgrade (to any case) is if you A want to downsize, B want to get into water-cooling, or C think the case has aged harder than three week old milk that wasn't refrigerated.

Mat_95 reacted to turquato in BIOS update HP Pavilion Slimline s3682d
Well as the title suggests, I have this old dual core pc with 4GB of DDR2 memory. And I have a Core2Quad Q8200 lying around and was hoping to swap the CPU's.
When I did the swap, the new CPU is not recognized and the PC will then shutdown.
I've checked the HP website and no BIOS update was available.
Is there anything I could do to have it up and running using the Q8200?

    Other Infos that might help.

My old x79 motherboard is the exact same one rev1.02 it is also missing that component.

It's common for any PCB designer to end up either discovering a component either isn't needed, is causing conflict, or is a upgrade option on different versions or revisions.

I'm no expert on board design, given the placement, it could be a mosfet missing for the middle pcie slot or Electronics Wizardry is right and they just decided it was not needed anymore. If you are not having any problems with the board I guess just ignore it. maybe keep it in mind if you end up plugging something in and it does not work though.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    depends on the laptop.
some come with add in GPU's in the MXM formfactor, others come with the GPU soldered to the motherboard.
it really depends on your specific laptop.

I have never seen "error code" in verb form, you have given me new knowledge today.

It might have just been the overheating, once electric components heat up, they start to act differently, oddly enough, but if they're kept at reasonable temperatures they should act normally. (it would be a problem especially on Fermi, for obvious reasons.)

it is so strange because i removed it to inspect , and there was no sign of any damage or burn. i also used a computer microscope to check for the tiniest defect but there isn't anything. i also cleaned the slot and the connections and made sure everything is secure, but damn it, there is no luck :'(

Mat_95 reacted to TechyBen in Bought a broken gpu
Yeah... I sold a motherboard and someone bent the pins, told me the ram did not work in it, and sent it back without the socket cover/protection. I pushed the pin back into place, and it worked perfectly... but then knocked a resistor off... and broke it.  Managed a bodge resolder, and someone bought it "parts not working" but I mentioned in the comments that is working, but I cannot guarantee my repair work. Sadly I only then got enough to cover my lost postage (3 times as twice for the idiot who broke it the first time, and second on the final sale), so I broke even a bit.

Selling a few things on Ebay, I've had trouble with that motherboard, and an old SSD that was sent out working, returned completely dead  So all in all I've lost about £60 (even if only counting postage and fees) or more in sales from people killing kit sent to them.

I also gave up trying to buy RAM on ebay, as 2 out of 3 attempts were wrongly listed as the wrong size, type etc.

Mat_95 reacted to tomoki in Has anyone on here managed to get anything from the NCIX auctions?
No the auction took place around 2 weeks ago. It's not worth it in my opinion and I also posted this on YouTube comments.

I definitely thought it was a gold mine. I got so excited about everything until I read the terms and conditions. There's a 17% buyer's premium (probably auction company's fees) and a 12% tax (provincial tax and goods sales tax where we live). That's a total of 29% taxes basically.

Next point. The prices at the auction didn't necessarily start off with good prices either. While most items were a little under MSRP (some were a little over in prices you could buy at from other local shops or even Amazon Canada) , you would save approximately 30 to 40CAD on some items. This was me... Calculating prices at the beginning of the auction to see if it was still worthwhile to go. I knew about the auction 3 weeks in advance and the prices only started coming up the Tuesday of the auction. The preview was Wednesday and the actual auction landed on a Thursday. This was all in the final week of February.

Keep in mind that this is an auction. There are no returns, refunds or exchanges. No warranties whatsoever with any company other than the manufacturer if it exists. If you would like to RMA something, good luck with sending that back.

There is one thing I would've wanted to get but only 1. There was a bundle of 3 sets of 16gb DDR4 ram kits (dual channel not sure what speed) that I would've attempted. There was 1 bidder who bid 300 CAD on it. If he obtained that, congrats.

Other than that, a lot of items you had to buy in bulk. It was perfect for other smaller companies to restock on things like a pallet's worth of computer cases or even cooler heatsinks. Unless you have the space and patience to resell everything with a marginal profit, don't bother.

Oh and there was a ton of office supplies and I even saw conveyor belts for auction. Quite astonishing really.
